The problem is not just the losing They have lost and even gone onosing streaks and the games were still entertaining and even "enjoyable" These games are neither They are very hard to watch Team is boring and sloppy and gutless and just hard to watch or find much to build on... Stop watching. Come back when they are winning. We can all be happy

I hate when people call the team gutless. And that's just not true. And it's not fair to a team that won an historic 108 games last year...ultimate competitors. We are minus only Kelly and Kimbrel. Kelly, on early performance, would not have helped and Barnes/Brasier have emulated the best of Kimbrel. It's early. Some things can't be quantified despite all the effort of the stat scientists to do so. The game is full of vagaries, the players humanly imperfect. I think last year took a great deal out of the team physically, emotionally and psychologically. No juice left in the battery. Management apparently opted for a slow recharge. And once you've made the exhausting climb of Everest, it may take time to rejuvenate what was needed. I was spent at season's end and didn't play an inning. Subliminally at least, I was ready for an emotional rest. I'll enjoy the season for whatever it becomes and not damn the team. The players are human....not gutless.

You cannot say enough bad things about Cora’s handling of spring training. Talk about an example of being too smart for your own good. Definitely the coach is always the problem, even in a 15-8 game. He was the difference between winning and losing. It's always the coach no matter what sport. If it weren't for bad coaches, teams would never lose. Never fails. Now tell me once again how you're just kidding to jinx them.

On top of which they look like a team that is desperate to get home to see their wives/girlfriends and kids. They haven't been home since the beginning of February. An extended trip to the other coast to start the season is just plain brutal.
This is exactly the problem. Whoever came up with this schedule is just stupid. No team should be on a 11 game opposite coast trip to begin a season.

This is the worst possible scheduled start they could have had. Added to the fact that while they were slow playing the starters they were traveling to face the two teams who started their season a week before everyone else in Japan and were likely the most game ready teams.

Last years start (17-2) felt surreal to me. This years' start gives me a surreal feeling of a different nature. Stumbling out of the gate is annoying. I take solace in that this is not the Kentucky Derby, but instead the Boston Marathon. Carry on gentleman and show us your metal.

They're playing as if they're in spring training. I don't think the schedule is to blame. It didn't help, but they're playing poorly. They're not unlucky. The pitching has been brutal and the defense has been bad and the baserunning not good. They don't look prepared. We all know why. The question is how far a hole do they did themselves before spring training finally ends and what happens if they do get a bunch of bad breaks along the way? Right now, I'm thankful they don't have the Yankees' injury issues, but you never know what can happen.

Alex Speier @alexspeier
Source: Marcus Walden and Tzu-Wei Lin are being called up to the Red Sox. . . . Walden is already in Arizona.

Possible corresponding moves for Red Sox: LHP Brian Johnson (who allowed seven runs in the sixth inning yesterday) and Brock Holt could land on the injured list.

Holt and Johnson injured?
I like Walden better than Johnson...and while not a spot starter, can go multiple innings.
I suspect that by mid-season Johnson (good story) and Hector may be gone.

Velazquez has an option so he probably will wind up at Pawtucket at some point or another and will probably yo-yo up and down. Johnson is out of options. I don't think the Sox will cut him, particularly with Porcello an upcoming free agent. Strange - they haven't said what's wrong with Holt and Johnson as of yet as in "he's going on the IL with a .... injury."

I saw something earlier that Holt has a right eye injury. Might have said it was a scratched cornea.

Our phantom IL game might be the only thing in mid-sesason form.

I’d like to see what Chavis can do too, but Devers isn’t going to be the one replaced for that.
