They're meant to be a lot less formal than other threads on the forum, so to moderate them the same way would be silly. However, we do ask posters to maintain a certain level of decorum in these threads, and we plan on moderating the Gameday threads a little more actively this season. In particular, we ask that posters refrain from being overly repetitive with their posts (if you've made your point, let it go), refrain from monopolizing the discussion (if you are making more than a couple posts in a row, you probably need to slow down a little bit), and of course, follow the Ground Rules ( link). Look at those lopsided pitching matchups. **looks at the $212M the Red Sox just gave to these two pitchers, chuckles nervously**

Pedroia in the lineup today!

Only a little alarming that 3/5 of Sale’s strikeouts this season came in the first inning of his first start. Maybe he’ll double his season total today (if they even play).

They must feel pretty confident in Pedroia:

Red Sox announce they’ve activated Dustin Pedroia from the 10-day injured list. To make room for Pedroia, they optioned INF Tzu-Wei Lin to Triple-A Pawtucket.

I'm not betting against Pedroia, I'm just not a betting man, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't have any reservations. Missing 1.5 season at ages 33 and 34 are completely different than missing them at 23/24, although I suppose missing time in your early years presents a different set of problems.
I'am however, hopeful. Pedey has been my favorite player for the past ten years, and a healthy Pedey that can do Pedey like things can be the boost this team needs to help them repeat! although I'd settle getting out of this early season funk first.

Remember the thing how the White Sox had a nerf gun to shoot at any scout who compares a player to a Hall of Famer?
I am instituting the same policy for anytime someone claims Jackie Bradley's spring training performance indicates a change in his skill level. He is a great fielder and a streaky, inconsistent hitter whose offensive contributions generally end up in the vicinity of "fine." He will be 29 next week. People have to appreciate what he is and not expect him to maintain the level of play when he's at his best.

Nervous when Nunez is the backup to most of the lineup. I like having Holt or Lin on the roster at all times.

He will collect his World Series Ring on Opening Day Ceremony as part of the team. (Of course that doesn't do Lin any good, does it? Hopefully he can stick around.)

Can we all agree that if Sale isn’t 95+ consistently on a day like today it’s time to really worry?

I would assume Lin will be present. Doesn't have to report for another day or two. I could see him just meeting the team in Pawtucket on Thursday. EDIT: Nevermind. PawSox just tweeted he'll be in Buffalo tonight.

It's always something like that though, right? He's constantly adjusting, tinkering, working with different coaches, players, people who he's worked with in the past, people who he's never worked with before... and ending up about the same. Which is fine, he's pretty good as it is. We're just at something like year seven of "this time it's real!"

The problem with winning every single baseball game for a year is that you start thinking a player like Nunez isn't a huge drag on your team. The strangest and most amazing thing to me about their winning 108 games last season was that they had some real holes in their lineup. You'd assume a historically great team would be at least decent at every position, but they had Nunez starting at 2B most of the year! They were also below average at 1B and 3B, and got basically no offense out of their catchers at all. They were subpar at 4/8 fielding positions!

There's an article that kind of explains the loss in velocity that just came out on weei.com weei.radio.com/blogs/ryan-hannable/chris-sale-news-reason-why-left-handers-velocity-was-down-last-startThe concern I have is how he got his stomach issues. Didn't he have them in October? Is it related to anti-inflammatory medication he might be taking because perhaps his shoulder hurts still? I mean, that's just speculation on my part, but this article was interesting to read.

Saw this - not fully buying it but that’s why I said after this start... he’s an emotional guy... he’s going to be amped up in the home opener after getting his ring...
