You had one low leverage inning job Thornburg. Don't know if he's going to last on the roster all year, not based on this appearance but since he hasn't been the same guy since the injury.

Chris Davis being the final out was awesome, what a rockstar.

Take the win and go home.
I feel bad for Chris Davis. It’s awful to watch.

This homerun problem just won't go away. Get used to it, the ball is flying. Highest home runs per game rate ever this season.

Stop the presses. A 2 game winning streak and an actual strong start by a starting pitcher.
And now at least we know what Cora's plan was as far as the pen goes. Use Brasier as the traditional closer and use Barnes as the key out(s) of the game kind of guy.
Hopefully Thornburg pitches better than he did today going forward. The walk bothered me more than the HR. You're up 4. Attack the hitter.

Fun fact. Matt Barnes struck out 54 per 9 today.

Davis needs 4 more hitless AB's to become the Bizarro DiMaggio.
The thing about hitting in 56 straight games that's astounding is that the next best streak (over two seasons) is 45. That's 24.4% more than the runner-up.
Davis's 0/54 is 17% longer than the previous 0/46. Another 0/4 and he's broken the record by 26.1%.
To put this in perspective, to break the one-game K record by as big a margin as his current 17%, you'd need to fan 24 (23.5, to be precise). What Davis has done already is like someone after Maris and before steroids jacking 72.
Given that contracts like Davis's are unlikely to happen again (and that MLB may do some things to discourage tanking), we may be watching an unbreakable record unfold.

The Red Sox will be fine this year. Baseball is a statistical paradise.

Mejia is waiting in Pawtucket. Either Thonrburg or Brewer has to go to AAA if Holt and Johnson are healthy simultaneously.
Meanwhile, Thornburg and Brasier have about the same xwOBA (I'll have the updated figures tomorrow). It's way too soon to conclude that Thornburg isn't good enough, but Brewer has been much better so far.

I believe Thornburg is out of options and if he clears waivers, he has enough time to refuse an outright assignment to AAA.

Just a quick word, cuz he was off tonight. Can we all just appreciate, for a moment, how good it feels to have Pedey back?

I’m encouraged by Thornburg, actually. I’d prefer that, with Lin, they drop Nunez. Though tbh that would probably come back to bite them. Seems to me that Thornburg’s issue is almost entirely command. He’s goving up hard contact with good stuff, but he’s also still getting whiffs. I think they’d be best-served to hold onto him for a bit and see if the rust shakes off. He’s basically showing pre-TO-surgery stuff, and his control/command have improved since ST. He’d almost certainly have more trade value than Nunez. And I think Nunez would be easier to replace should the need arise (Lin, for one...but on the trade market, too). I’ve got a bad feeling that, with his CB looking excellent, if the Sox got rid of Thornburg, he’d rediscover his mojo pretty quickly. I don’t think it’s far off. Brewer has been a *find*.

I’m not suggesting we give up on either yet. Just that the early returns on Mejia have been good and Walden looks legit. So we have some options if Thornburg can’t get fully back
