Jackie Bradley Jr'r May OPS is .825 ...which means he's a month ahead of last year. I kind of feel like JBJ's streakiness kind of obscures the more obvious reality that he should just be platooned. For the last three calendar years, he has a 60 wRC+ against lefties, versus a 99 mark against righties. This year he's .167/.200/.229 against lefties and .193/.316/.351 against righties. One of the things that's really hurt this team is all the guys in the lineup who, rather than just putting up replacement level blandness, are aggressively accumulating negative value. Reducing JBJ's playing time against lefties would have mitigated that significantly.

I'm almost 75 percent sure they make the playoffs too, but there was 2 teams ahead the Nationals last year in the race for the division. There was also competition from other teams in the wild card. The Sox are eerily similar to the Nationals situation last year. I don't have high expectations this year. Bullpen is built on thumb tacks and glue. You have barely any farm system to help you out later in the year. I'll be happy with a New York stumble in the playoffs and the Sox making it to at least the wild card game. At least make it there. That’s almost entirely my concern re: the Sox. They remind me of the Nats. They’ll get Eovaldi back and I’ve gotta hope Mookie and Beni pick it up; JBJ looks like he’s going hot streak (hopefully a long one). And I’m much more sanguine about the ‘pen than you. But something just feels off for them this year. I’m usually on the optimistic side, so it’s unusual for me. And if Price’s performance holds and Sale goes full Sale, well...get ready for the playoffs. And tbh I still think that if they play to ability, they could win the division. But recent solid run aside, they just seem to be...pressing. And I don’t like it.
