Brasier has no idea where the ball is going.

If there's a guy that I can't stand Gardner, no matter what seems to kill this team. Oh, ab-fking-solutly he's on top but I specifically said "in the bullpen". The rotation"spot" goes of course to fat cc

NYY’S record nearly identical to Sox record last year, and Bronx has lost half their team to the DL. No way Sox are catching them.
Don’t know if we can blame Sox performance on the BS spring training philosophy and execution, the FO believing their own BS, a hangover (although HOU didn’t have a hangover last year), the FO/Ownership failing to improve the roster recognizing a regression was bound to occur, or all of the above.
Just fugly however you assess and rationalize.

I am not too worried about this. I actually am happy that the Yankees are in first. Let it inflate their ego's. All we need is to get that Wild Card spot and then I like our chances as well as any team who can get hot..

It’s pretty obvious that the April Sox were the real sox this year. Hopefully it gets us a top 10 pick. Oh boy! Now that's a HAWT TAKE Not really. This team is not good and can’t put good stretches of good play together.

Taylor already looks better to me than Brasier Velazquez Brewer Weber Lakins. At least he has a good fastball and looks like he will challenge guys.

Happ is one of their lesser pitchers. what will we do against their best? It is not a fact of being worried about blowing up their egos. this team had a slew of injuries and they maintained their play throughout. the Sox have stumbled and blown sure wins with shoddy play. If this is something to look forward to...You could have fooled me.

I just have to hope that the Sox aren't double-digits back when it happens so they can slice into a lead for the division. I think the Sox will remain in contention for a Wild Card.

Best adjective for the team at this point...average? pedestrian? disappointing? run of the mill? Depressing? Meh? Frequently boring?
You look at the roster and see the talent - but the fire is missing. As we've all been told - repeating is hard...really hard.

One run is good right?
That means we win! Since the team with the lowest score wins!

we can't seem to score against this team They have play very poorly at YS since Kimbrel arrived in 2016. Before that they own the home team since the park was open.

The poor play at this park as of late is incredible. When they do lead, it's usually blown by the closers. I still picture Kimbrel pitching here, where he just struggles. Please just forget about signing him.

Unsurprising game. This is a totally different year. It's pretty obvious the Red Sox are not taking the division. It's not obvious the Red Sox will be a Wild Card. I still think they will, but there's nothing about this 2019 team that feels even remotely special.
Now they're 2-7 against Houston and NY, the class of the league. You can say it's a small sample size, but the sample size is growing.
That's now 0-3 against the Yankees.
If you want to be the best team in the league you have to beat those MF(Y)ers. That's what the Red Sox finally did in 2004, certainly what they did in 2013, and what they did when it mattered most in 2018 - they stood up to the Yankees and showed them who's boss.
This year's team has done nothing against the Yankees. It's pretty clear that the Yankees' B squad is much better than the Red Sox are right now.
I mean you can say it's early, but the Red Sox are already 8.5 games out of 1st place and they haven't even hit June. I think the Red Sox will finally win a game this series, but I don't even feel good enough about this team to say even that. It really wouldn't shock me if this turns out to be the Yankees' division title statement, a bit like the huge statement the Red Sox made last August. Thanks to the rain out, it won't be that grand a statement from the Yankees, but if they sweep Boston, the Sox are 10.5 games out and have no shot at the division.
Not finishing first isn't the end of the world, but it's amazing how Chris Sale is off a tick, yet it's even more amazing how the Red Sox can't even score when he takes the mound, for whatever non-logical reason there is.
The offense has starts and stops, and it's weird. The Sox and Yanks have roughly the same staff FIP, but the Yankees have given up A LOT less runs than the Red Sox. It's not even that close. That should mean that the Sox should narrow the gap, but I have trouble believing that's going to happen.
The Yankees are playing to win this year. The Red Sox are just kind of off, for whatever reason.
With the loss the Sox are 29-28. Last year, they actually had a record of 86-34 at some point. Can't help but wonder how much fewer wins the Sox will have when they lose their 34th game this year - which should be quite soon the way they're going.

now behind the AAA yankees 9 games in the loss column. feels.bad. Yanks management did a great job with acquisitions like Voit et al. They may be their current second string/ AAA team but still have a chance to match Red Sox all time season record. Gregorious, Severino, Stanton, Judge and more added will make them favorites this year and much beyond.

Not sure what Cora does to shake this team out of the bizarre doldrums they've drifted in and out of all season.
But - if he wants to make a statement, Nunez has to be DFAd. He's cost them a lot this year, directly and indirectly, with poor hitting, baserunning and fielding. Looking through the rest of the roster, Leon has not been the pitching staff panacea and delivers little to nothing with the bat. Pearce is hurt. Moreland is hurt. The thin roster looks even thinner, with Pawtucket possible solutions certainly not earth shattering.

Yeah I mean, the next 2 games are MUST win if you want to save a chance to win the division later in the year.
Being behind 2 teams and 8-10 losses back of BOTH of them is pretty hard to come back from. You can't expect to leapfrog both in this scenario.
As far as I'm concerned, Cora better be chasing wins the next 2 games or we're going back to talking about trading Betts all over again possibly.
There's officially 5 teams within 2 games of the second wild card position for context on how much competition you have there.

There's officially 5 teams within 2 games of the second wild card position for context on how much competition you have there. Even if the Sox get swept there's no real reason to deal Betts. The Sox need to sign him. It's that simple and they know it. They need to re-up JD Martinez, too. The Red Sox basically have the same team as last year and if they hold onto Betts and bring back Martinez, they will lose Porcello, but beyond basically the same team. In scenario A, you have this team maxing out everything you can dream of - that's the 2018 Red Sox. In scenario B, you have this team disappointing and boring the hell out of you - that's the 2019 Red Sox. In scenario C, you probably have a team in the middle of A and B - probably winning 95 games on talent alone - that would probably be the 2020 Red Sox. If you trade away Betts, you likely undo scenario C. And if you sign Betts long-term, the Sox can continue to compete at a high level for the foreseeable future.
