Couple of people got prickly from nothing more than Sarasoxer mentioning Trey Ball and the repertoire. Could have thrown in Henry Owens as well with swapping out the curve for a slider. Everyone here am pretty sure likes the sign, but some here take defending every thing the Sox do, even years down the line a bit too far. It could also describe Blake Snell. He was a tall skinny high school pitcher sitting 88-90 with concerns that he'd never maintain that poor velocity because of his frame. Just amazed what a buzz was created over what were proffered as innocent statements...Surely no one knows how a high schooler will develop, if at all. It's mostly projection and perhaps some burning of incense with red-eyes staring into a roiling cauldron. We gave the guy a very healthy bonus considering current pitching reports. He was unranked by Baseball America and Fangraphs. Jay Groome, (injured), was said to have the best high school FB/CB combination in a decade....He was throwing up to 98 according to reports, a possible first round, #1 draftee. His brief pro appearances were far less than advertisements...high 80s to low 90s velo. He might have been injured or regressed. He still might be Koufax redux. Ya never know. Imagine the uproar had I said the opposite "Loubier looks like another Blake Snell, a Cy Young candidate... we could have gotten a steal....BTW Loubier is RH. Anyway, thank goodness we play again tomorrow. Whew.

Idk about you guys but I’m excited about a 6’6” teen w what appear to be a legitimate 3 pitch mix
If he never adds significant velo he’d still probably be good low minors depth

You are comparing apples to monkeys who are orange intolerant.. I just used a bastardized version of this on the Sports Hub. I apologize for failing to give proper citation. I never understood the apple to orange thing. They are both citrus and close enough. Anyhow, it was a nice interview, Chris. I'd have Noah between 15-20 in our current rankings. It will be nice to get a look at him in Lowell. I also really hope we can now sign Roberts.

Baseball draft is so weird compared to any other. ... Lastly, how far the Red Sox scouting has come from years past. ... I'd like to tie those two thoughts together. One place where they are comparable is in digging up talent that's below the radar. I'm thinking of Belichick specifically. The list of players the Pats have lifted from obscurity is just astounding. Every year there are 2 or 3 more names to add to that list. The Sox are, hopefully, on the verge of stealing a page or two from that book. The takehome for me is that there's a lot of talent out there that's hasn't been tapped. You have to go out and find it. That's something you mention. And as in every other aspect of society it's touched, the Internet probably has had the effect of helping to get the word out and the eyeballs in for a look/see. That and all that handheld tech.

We did a version of the 7/1 rankings that included Song in case he signed. He's definitely in the top 20. Part of the difficulty of ranking him is not knowing if he's going to be gone for 2 years or not. Without the service obligation I'd probably stick him at 13 behind Lugo and Cannon. Factoring in the uncertainty means he probably drops a few spots.

So we are looking at Song, Chacon, Loubier, and we are all hoping, Roberts in the July 15 updated rankings. Any movement on other players or just slotting the new ones in?

Note the Spinners sweatshirt.
Speaking of which, I don't recall seeing that Lowell logo on the front before. That's kind of fire.

The Sox' track record for top-200 bonuses to guys not ranked in the BA top 200 is extraordinary.
Josh Reddick, taken in the 17th round in '06 out of JC and given the recommended slot amount for pick #182.
Anthony Rizzo, taken in the 6th round the next year and given #104 pick money.
Marcus Lynn Betts, taken in the 5th round and given #50 pick money.
This is all about doing more scouting work than the opposition.
They've never hit big on a pitcher, but Hunter Strickland (18th round in '07, given #184 money) had a very nice three years in the Giants pen. There was also Drake Britton and Hunter Cervenka, each with a good partial relief year.
Meanwhile, I also really, really like Loubier's delivery in that video. They're overdue to hit it big on a pitcher, right?

For its worth, I think Aaron Roberts is currently with his collegiate summer team, which is probably a bad sign for his chances of signing as it seems like those who are in agreement are in FL or MA to finalize things. Still though, they seem to be spreading around the remaining $....wouldn't be surprised if Simas and Blalock needed a little extra to sign potentially as a backup plan to the remaining 11-16 round guys whose bonus demands may have been out of reach.

So any updates on this Roberts kid? He’d be a steal to lockdown given his velocity numbers and reports on his secondary pitches.

Not sure if it means anything, but Aaron Roberts liked a Twitter post regarding Loubier's signing and Garret Irvin liked/commented on Cellucci's signing post on Instagram.
