Man, i saw Mike Shawaryn pitch when he was in High School. His debut will be the best thing about this game. Really happy they are giving him his debut!

what do we make of Shawaryn's debut? His slider is above average. I think pretty much the same of him as before. He's a pretty solid swing man. Should be able to provide innings for them. Similar to what others have done in the past. Could be a solid 7th inning guy. I need to see more.

Back to square one with this offense. Pathetic doesn't even begin to describe most of these at bats. Why bring a bat up to the plate?

Chirinos with a career best start needs an asterisk. he hit our line up on one of its vanishing act nights - we've seen plenty of it this season

The offense this season reminds me of two seasons ago. Almost get no hit in one game and put up 8 runs the next. Last season they were amazingly consistent not so much this one. I guess if you want to get nitpicky they are consistent in their inconsistency...

I guess the Sox are impressed by Josh's nifty 5+ ERA and 1.5 WHIP at Pawtucket. The Rays probably have 10 starters better than him at AA and AAA.

Shawaryn's pitches have good movement. Doesn't look like he can paint the corners though. You can see the talent.

Eovaldi might have a setback now, too. So we'll get more non-major league pitchers taking his starts.

This team needs to trade for a serviceable arm, either get yourselves a starter and use him until Eovaldi gets back. Then use that starter or Eovaldi in the pen when hes healthy. Giving away an automatic loss once a week needs to end

I'm glad the Sox are at least generous enough to give the Rays a push for the division, so we don't have to listen to New York brag about it.

the problem with Nunez doing well for a few games is that he gets more playing time

I do believe, once again, we can confirm that our record is who we are this year. Resoundingly average in results, despite all of that talent. The hangover continues....tonight was a pathetic effort.

Some stats to chew on - found on Twitter
#RedSox fall to 15-16 when opponents score first, 2-11 when scoring less than 3 runs, 2-12 without the benefit of a home run, 7-14 in series openers.
(Pretty painful stats)
Cora's comments are interesting
Manager Cora on #RedSox Mookie Betts: "He's still controlling the strike zone…he's just missing pitches…it seems like he's missing his pitch…He's staying within the zone…just a matter of time if he keeps doing that."
Manager Cora on #RedSox Mitch Moreland: "He came in [from the field] and he told me about [the tightness]…he doesn't feel great. We'll talk a little bit more…see what we're going to do."
Manager Cora on #RedSox offense: We haven't been good in a while with men in scoring position, we haven't been good with the bases loaded in the last month, but obviously [Yonny Chirinos'] stuff was good."
Manager Cora on #RedSox offense: "There are certain things that we haven't done this season, and I know the numbers looks great and very similar to last year, but it doesn't feel the same way."
