They're meant to be a lot less formal than other threads on the forum, so to moderate them the same way would be silly. However, we do ask posters to maintain a certain level of decorum in these threads, and we plan on moderating the Gameday threads a little more actively this season. In particular, we ask that posters refrain from being overly repetitive with their posts (if you've made your point, let it go), refrain from monopolizing the discussion (if you are making more than a couple posts in a row, you probably need to slow down a little bit), and of course, follow the Ground Rules ( link). The point is to make these threads worth participating in and fun for all posters, from our long-time fixtures to people just signing up today. -The Management

Not expecting it to happen, but there's a small chance both the Rangers and Angels could leapfrog the Red Sox after this series. For that to happen, they'll need to get swept, which will put them at .500.
What a depressing season.

Looks like the Angels knew that randos with 5 and 6 ERAs are our offense's kryptonite and planned accordingly.

Remember all the hand-wringing about letting Ty Buttrey get away? He has a 5.90 ERA in his last 30 appearances.

Hoping for.the best of both worlds....Sox sweep....Trout gives a glimpse of being one of the 5 best players ever.
(Ruth, Cobb, Mantle, Williams !!!!!) - one man's purely silly / revised opinion

Remember all the hand-wringing about letting Ty Buttrey get away? He has a 5.90 ERA in his last 30 appearances. Go look at his game log, he's been blown up 4 out his last 5 appearances but has been absolutely pristine otherwise. He had a sub-3.00 ERA on July 25th. Where's all the SSS and random start/stop point caveats we're used to seeing? Even with the bad week, he'd have the 2nd or 3rd best stat line in our current bullpen. Pristine is... generous? He was outstanding for six weeks, hit or miss for about eight weeks, and then just downright awful for the last two weeks. That lines up pretty well with the Buttrey we saw for years in the minors. Consistency issues, trouble with men on base, same as when he was in the minors. He's a medium leverage reliever, which is a fine price for a World Series contender to pay for a starting second baseman. All credit due for getting his career on track after bottoming out with Portland in '16, but the "I can't believe they traded Buttrey!" stuff from the first couple months this year was overdone.

Ian Kinsler had a 2.4 bWAR in 2018. Eduardo Nunez had a -1.1. WAR can be reductionist at times, but that's not close. The idea he was having a bad year in Anaheim is crazy, and he was much, much better than Nunez.

The idea he was having a bad year in Anaheim is crazy, and he was much, much better than Nunez. I'm being a little tongue in cheek with the Kinsler/Nunez comparison, but Kinsler had a .710 OPS at the time the Sox traded for him. There were other internal defense first options at 2B. And with Buttrey sporting a career 3.52 ERA, 2.78 FIP, and 10.8 K/9 he'd be a welcome addition to the current bullpen, hardly in "I told you so" territory. Until the last 2 weeks, he definitely was.

Price to IL. Hector V recalled Well, that pretty much puts a wrap into this season. Good to know that there was something behind Price's struggles lately, but yeah no David Price is a season ender when little hope was there to begin with.

If they're a game out, it's it manageable? Why did this take so long to discover if he's had it for awhile? I really don't know the nature of his injury and how long he's expected to be out for.

He just had a cortisone shot. Yeah. He's pretty much iffy the whole rest of the way through now, if not done entirely.

i never liked Brian O'Nora's strike zone. That was a terrible call to Stassi, who has a right to be irate about that.
