Texas, please help us. Price would look great in a Rangers uniform!! From mlbtraderumors.com: The Red Sox could be facing payroll constraints and have a number of high-priced but effective starting pitchers. With that in mind, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News hears that the Rangers have internally kicked around the idea of pursuing one of those arms in trade. Texas is planning to increase payroll in 2020, after all. While much of that attention has focused on a potential pursuit of Gerrit Cole or Anthony Rendon in free agency, that flexibility can certainly be put to use in trade as well. Grant speculates that any of Chris Sale, David Price, or Nathan Eovaldi could be targets. Of course, given the caliber of players (particularly Sale and Price) and amount of money involved, any trade scenario would be extremely complex. Here's the link to the article: www.dallasnews.com/sports/rangers/2019/10/30/red-sox-may-look-to-shed-payroll-and-sources-say-the-rangers-have-had-internal-discussions-about-the-possibilities/

Trading Price for Choo for the sake of clearing cap would be rough seeing as the team would have to go out and spend on front end pitching. Now Eovaldi for Odor could be interesting.

Kutter Crawford had TJ yesterday. Gotta figure he's out for 2020.

Lean into it, it was a good pun and also a correct point.

OK, enough of this post-season crap. Let’s get on with it.
Looking for you Chiam Bloom to make a good first impression. Don’t make me come up there and take your job.

How much money will Odorizzi get? Velo and results were much better this year, and Bloom has an existing relationship with him.

Josh Osich is blooms first acquisition. I like it lefty that throws Mid 90’s. Almost Averaged a strikeout an inning.

Osich switched his primary pitch to a ~90mph CT this year while complementing with his mid 90s FB and a CB. He threw his CH sparingly this year which was a big departure from the previous season.

PS: If ownership/Bloom let JDM go to NYY, it’s an act of criminal negligence and should be treated as such.

Basically a low cost reliever with control who does some things great, and some horrible. Have to channel only the good and limit the bad. Cool with me.

Kevin Walker was Pawtucket's pitching coach. Also, the Red Sox hired Rey Fuentes as Mental Skills Coordinator (not the former Red Sox draft pick).

An out of options 31 year old LHP who is currently at best a very slight tick better than; McGrath, Hart, Diaz, Kent & Aybar. All of whom could be added to the 40 man roster this year.

He’s been in MLB for 4 years. He is substantially better than any of those options. Still a relative longshot, but if they can find a way to alter his mix/sequencing/location, and thus cut his HR rate, that’s a valuable addition. These are exactly the sort of additions this team needs to make. Volume low-cost MLB talent.

Osich was a league average lefty reliever last year. He’s not a free agent until 2023. He’s a low cost major league arm with some upside. He’s no stud, but you need that kind of player on your ballclub. Diaz and Aybar haven’t pitched above Salem. McGrath and Kent haven’t shown that they can succeed at AAA, let alone in the majors. Hart doesn’t have the stuff to sell me on being a major league contributor beyond an up and down guy. Osich is a better option than every one of them.

He's out of options, I seriously doubt he makes the team out of spring training or is serious competition to Johnson, Hernandez or Taylor. I think it's depth, not competition.

Pete Abraham @peteabe · #RedSox activated Dustin Pedroia and Chris Sale from the injured list today.
Andrew Cashner, Jhoulys Chacín, Brock Holt, Mitch Moreland, Steve Pearce, and Rick Porcello officially became free agents.
40-man roster is at 35. JD Martinez has until Monday to exercise his opt-out.

The JD decision is going to be fun to hear. I don't have a real sense of what he will do. Is everyone confident be is going to opt out.

The JD decision is going to be fun to hear. I don't have a real sense of what he will do. Is everyone confident be is going to opt out. I am not so sure he does. With the QO and the number of contracts that exceeded his current salary last year - I believe three Machado, Harper and Corbin - I don't know if there's a team that will make it worth JDM's time this year. Also, there is a chance that the next CBA (after 2020 season) will include a DH in both leagues, which would greatly expand his market, and he has an opt out going forward to account for that. All this is caveated by the fact that I don't know what kind of "theoretical discussions" Boras has had with other teams. If NYY thought they needed a DH even with Stanton - and maybe to cover Stanton - then JDM makes a lot of sense at $25M a year, given what he could do in that park. Personally I am praying that he stays. He has done nothing but deliver since they got him and was the offensive difference in 2018, not just at the plate, but as extensive reporting indicated, as an influence on Xander, Rafi and Mookie reevaluating their approaches at the plate.
