We are upgrading the SoxProspects Forum today, from ProBoards V4 to ProBoards V5. As many of you know, we changed forum hosts from Yuku to ProBoads back in September 2012. (Yuku accounts do not work on ProBoards, so everyone had to sign up for new accounts). As luck would have it, ProBoards launched a major upgrade in January. We've been working behind the scenes for the last month to put V5 into place and test it out. We hope you enjoy the new forum! Here are the three most important things to note about the upgrade:
(1) There are a ton of new features that should vastly improve your forum experience. I'll lay them out in the next post.
(2) V5 is still in Beta version. There may be a few bugs here or there, and I'm sure that there will be a few questions. Feel free to note any bugs, raise any questions, or give comments or suggestions in this thread.
(3) You do NOT have to reactivate your account. However, you will need to upgrade to a (free) global ProBoards account. It should only take a minute, and you will only need to do this once. I'll post a video below re: global accounts.

Here are some of the new forum features you can look forward to, courtesy of ProBoards:
Visual Posting Editor ProBoards v5 integrates an amazing WYSIWYG editor into the posting experience. This posting editor allows you to visually see what your post will look like as you create it.
AJAX driven search ProBoards has taken forum search to the next level. ProBoards v5 introduces our new AJAX driven "live-search" tools that bring up search results as you type. We know that being able to sort through forum content is key, and our new search system delivers the results you expect in the Web 2.0 world.
Integrated Forum Notifications Our new v5 forum software integrates new notifications into the forum experience. These notifications can tell you when someone quoted you, tagged you in a post, liked a post you made, and much more. This provides a much more engaging experience and encourages forum participation.
Forum Activity Feeds ProBoards v5 introduces a great new way to stay up to date with your friends. You can easily "follow" other members on the forum to build a customized activity feed for the members you care about. You can also see what an individual member has been up to in their profile's Activity tab, such as postings they have made, posts they liked, and much more. Activity feeds help you and your members stay more engaged with your forum.
Strong Privacy Controls Our privacy controls help you control your forum experience. You can restrict who can see your activity feed, prevent members from following you, block members from sending you messages, hide posts made by specific forum members, and much more.
Integrated Moderation Tools Integrated into ProBoards v5 are new tools that help our moderator team communicate effectively and efficiently. Forum members can report posts to your moderation team for possible action. Our tools provide your moderators what they need to effectively review, discuss, and take action in a given situation.
A single, global login Gone are the days of having to remember numerous different logins to access all of your favorite forums. With our new global login, you can access all your favorite forums with the same account details. Switching between your accounts is a breeze, and registering on a new forum takes only seconds.
Avatar Creator We know that when you join a forum you don't always have a forum avatar ready to go. We are happy to introduce our new v5 Avatar Maker! This flash-based tool allows you to create a unique, engaging, and fun avatars on any ProBoards forum you join.

Like the new design, My only question is, When i click on the NEW icon next to a thread that has unread messages, it brings me to the top of the first page, and not the first unread message in the thread. Is that a bug, or am i doing something wrong?

I'm having the same problem as grandsalami.

I believe that will clear itself up the second time you go into the thread.

It might also have been because I used NoScript for firefox and needed to allow "prbrds.com."

Not sure about the script thing, but the 2nd time I went into this thread the "New" button brought me right to the new comments. Not sure how well it will track what comments are new to me.

Yeah, seems to be a side effect from the switch that everything is "new" in a thread the first time you read it.

This new layout of the threads looks nice, much improved. Cleaner, easier to read the posts

Hey, I can actually hit the "page 1 2 3 etc" links now because they're more than three pixels across. That alone justifies the upgrade.
Thanks Mike/guys.

Would still love a marker in the posts telling me they are new.

We looked into that, and escalated all the way to ProBoards management. Not possible at this time.

Hey, I can actually hit the "page 1 2 3 etc" links now because they're more than three pixels across. That alone justifies the upgrade. Thanks Mike/guys. I don't know if I'm missing something, but I don't see a place to go forward to the next page, or skip to a page at the bottom of the screen. I have to scroll up to the top to go forward.

It should stay at the top of the screen as you scroll down.

I am posting this to see what a new post looks like with my new screen name. I like this upgrade.

Why are you prompted to download the ProBoards app EVERY time you access the site?
|
|
|
Post by Mike Andrews on Mar 5, 2013 10:46:02 GMT -5
azblue - I have not experienced that. If you could, please let me know what browser and operating system you are using, and let me know what the prompt says. Sorry for the inconvenience.

It does that if you access the site from a mobile device.
AZBlue, if you are visiting the board from an Android device, you can download Dolphin Browser and get an extension to browse in desktop mode instead of Android mode. In general it's much better than the stock browser. But yeah, you're only getting that because you're using a mobile device - that shouldn't happen from a desktop/laptop.
That said, the ProBoards app is pretty good and just $3.

It doesn't give that notification on Chrome for Android either. The new mobile version is a huge upgrade!

The message board is much improved...looks great. I'm curious, will the "look" of the main page be improved as well?

Chris, how good is the proBoards app. Is it worth the $2.99? Is it significantly better than accessing via the web on an iphone5?

The app works well. I have it on my iphone and I thought it was free, maybe I'm misremembering though.
