I like how simple Yorke's setup looks at the plate. His body seems more filled out than I remember from his draft videos. Looks like a baller to me! Love that ringing oppo-liner.

Yorke is really intriguing. I'm not saying that based on one at bat against Mata . What interests me is the fact the Sox were so high on him. I think they clearly believe he was a big talent who was under the radar. So he is going to be one of many early indicators as to how good Bloom is at appraising talent. The big take away from the Mata at bat is he must be using the same workout regime as Casas because they both have legs like tree trunks and neither is twenty.

A couple of notes:
This was Mata's first outing since the hammy cramp on August 30th. He wasn't as sharp as previously but didn't look rusty either, somewhere in the middle.
On Yorke's second AB, against Leyer, he almost duplicated his first AB with a liner down the right field line that went foul. He ended up walking then got picked off first by Grullon. Welcome to advanced catchers.
The Casas Simpson matchups are interesting. Simpson seems to be the only pitcher Casas has problems with. On the second AB, early in the count, he had an excuse me single against the shift. Hard call whether it was intentional because Simpson generates a ton of check swings against everybody.
Rosario has been impressive, always a quality AB (even if a short one) and goes opposite field frequently. We did good.
Leyer didn't look overly impressive. He uses the whole strike zone with a variety of pitches but nothing dominant.
Ockimey, like his hot/cold career, is on a hot streak for several weeks now.
Wilson has looked as rusty as he likely is.
The announcers think Mata might have a shot at the Red Sox rotation next spring.

Whether he can be a second baseman???

Gonsalves v. Matt Hall today at Pawtucket. Gonsalves struck out 6 of 7 batters he faced and looked very solid. Sitting 92-94 according to the announcers.
Nick Yorke with a double off of Matt Hall after working the count full. Four pitch walk for Yorke in his second AB against Hall.

Yorke has 4 plate appearances, a single, double and 2 walks. He also advanced to third on a short flyball to Duran. He's faster than I would have thought.

At the end of last season, we had no top-100 prospects. We now have two in Casas and Downs. Next year's first-round pick will make three. Out of Groome, Mata and Duran, we might have at least one more by the time next year's mid-season lists come out.
In addition, CB has improved the look of our 11-20 guys with Potts, Rosario and Seabold. I like what he's doing and think there's more to come.
Draft night 2021 should be fun.

What's going on with Groome ? He's not getting mentioned for good or for bad over the past week or so.

Thats wild. I get that we're talking about 2 days of plate appearances in a bizarre environment, but still....for a dude to recently graduate from HS and look like he belongs with this company is impressive.

It's funny. I've gone from "Who???" and "WHY HIM???!!" on draft night to thinking that they may really have something here in this kid, like a young Daniel Murphy when he was at his best, type of hitter, somebody you can bat toward the top of the lineup, and the cool thing is if he does down the road displace Downs, Jeter Downs is capable of going to an outfield corner and contributing, kind of the way Mookie did, although I wouldn't expect him to be the second coming of Roberto Clemente defensively like Betts.

You would not expect him to be a second Mookie *defensively*? Does that suggest he might be offensively? That is.... ambitious.

Yorke reminds me of one of those Little League players you see and think, "That kid looks like he's 16."

Just my view and based on pretty much only seeing Yorke's physique. If the two of them are starters on the same team, it will be Yorke moving to corner outfield not the other way around. Crabbe has been working daily with Downs and I see no reason to believe he won't be a plus or better defender at second or short. The more intriguing question might be when Downs is ready, who's the shortstop.

If it means bearing a close resemblance.... well, we can dream.

Nick Yorke with another double in Pawtucket, this one an opposite field hit down the RF line (pitcher was Seth Blair).

No, all I was saying that he might wind up being a 2b who ultimately move into RF, which was the path Mookie took, and helping the Red Sox win. I never ever said Downs was going to be Mookie offensively OR defensively. Or basically what Chris said.
