Apparently, the reason Matt Hall Triggs only went 1 was that he was hurt (I don't know what).
Maybe that will be the countermove for Eovaldi.

Vs the lefty lineup. Triggs went only 1. To setup the all lefty lineup for Hall. Hall was optioned. Last night. Bob Daubach is benched today.

I got that from the PawSox announcer so I probably got the name wrong because they mentioned 1 inning.

Xander struggles with runners on and JD is nonexistent.

Chavis showing signs of life over the past two weeks. Nice to see and an example of how the Sox being completely out of it rather than mediocre is allowing management to take a look at a number of guys who would otherwise have not been given an opportunity or who would have been benched or sent down without a chance to work through problems or prove over an extended time that they probably aren't fixable. I can kind of see Chavis making an adjustment because he was never just a power guy. He hit for average and power in the minors. In any case he's getting a long hard look that he wouldn't be getting if the Sox were competing for the post season.

That was dumb, but in fairness, I think the Sox have been generally less sloppy than they were in the first half of the season. Maybe partly cause Devers seems to have gotten it together.

I give chavis a that a boy in the dugout. Last thing we need is runners in scoring position. The rangers just won the first game today if they win the second one, we shouldn't win another game the rest of the season for the 2nd spot in the draft. Well looky there the pirates have the lead.

Last night I was watching the Tampa broadcast and they showed that Lowe was OPSing 1.325 vs the Sox during his career. I guess that went up lol

As soon as the season ends I want Mazza out of here. I really hope they clean out a few of these guys.

I wouldn't mind Mazza at Pawtucket. There's upside.

Anyone remember Dice-K's Yairo ball ? It was a Giro ball. Like a lot of things with Dice-K, it turned out to be more mythology and lore than reality.

He was very good his first two seasons. Brrrrruuuuttal to watch, but good. 9.5 bWAR from a pitcher age 26-27? Pretty sweet. The rest of his career? Not so sweet. Add: heck, even 2010 Dice-K would be close to the #1 starter this season.

I don't know if it was too much fiction while he was in Japan, but I don't remember if he actually threw it in the US. Seems it would take a tremendous toll on your elbow: www.wikihow.com/Throw-a-Real-Gyroball

As soon as the season ends I want Mazza out of here. I really hope they clean out a few of these guys.
His first 5 hitters:
BB SO BB 96.8 EV, .830 xBA 96.3 EV, .730 xBA
After that:
85.3, .240, GO
SO
76.5, .050, GO
SO 97.3, .350 (because of high launch angle), FO
83.4, .910 (cheap bloop single) 94.8, .220 FO SO SO
He's a starting pitcher who was relieving for the first time in weeks.
The first 5 batters include the only two guys who made serious contact with him (and at the very minimum for true hard contact at that) and the only two walks he issued.
He went from a 12.18 pERA to a -1.75. (Yes, the metric works for any sample size, as long as you convert Launch Angles below 12, the worst possible, into their positive equivalents).
Gee ... you think maybe he wasn't warmed up properly?
Or did he go from completely awful to totally dominant just by accident?
Given the innings he can give you, I think he edges Valdez as the best of Bloom's pitching finds.
