A note regarding moderating of the gameday threads in 2020: As the disclaimer has always said, in the past, we have been very liberal in moderating the Gameday threads. They're meant to be a lot less formal than other threads on the forum, so to moderate them the same way would be silly. However, we do ask posters to maintain a certain level of decorum in these threads, and we plan on moderating the Gameday threads a little more actively this season. In particular, we ask that posters refrain from being overly repetitive with their posts (if you've made your point, let it go), refrain from monopolizing the discussion (if you are making more than a couple posts in a row, you probably need to slow down a little bit), and of course, follow the Ground Rules ( link). The point is to make these threads worth participating in and fun for all posters, from our long-time fixtures to people just signing up today. -The Management

The Lightning and the Rays winning titles might be the sports equivalent of the tree falling in the woods. They could share a parade on golf carts and get a few curious, accidental on-lookers.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I'm kind of rooting for the Dodgers.
No animosity toward the Rays, and if they win I'll be quite happy for them.
But I'm rooting for the Dodgers because obviously I find it quite easy to root for Mookie Betts, Dave Roberts, and Joe Kelly. It will be painful to see Mookie collecting World Series rings for teams not known as the Red Sox, but it is what it is. The Red Sox didn't want to make Mookie the Godfather offer. The Dodgers did. And the Red Sox didn't plan their budget smartly to make that Godfather offer to Betts without the tax and penalties. So the Dodgers took advantage and pounced.
But just as much, I'm rooting for the Dodgers because I think Andrew Friedman is the best GM in the game and deserves the title to validate it.
I mean, he has built a Dodgers team in a way all of us here are probably quite envious of. He brought his TB Rays ways of doing things and had the huge budget to do it with. Basically he's done what we all hope Chaim Bloom will accomplish.
The Dodgers have won 8 straight division titles and are now going to their 3rd WS in 4 years and were cheated out of their championship in 2017.
I'd really hate to think you can do as many things right as the Dodgers have done the past 8 years and not be rewarded for that. It just wouldn't be right, so here's one opinion hoping that the Dodgers finally get the ultimate success they deserve. And if it puts a smile on the faces of Vin Scully, Sandy Koufax, and Tommy LaSorda, the better.

Without the need for travel days they could've just played 7 days in a row. That would have been interesting.

Go Dodgers! No one in the AL EAST should be winning WS trophies other than the Red Sox. Also how can I root against David Roberts*?
* When he's not facing the Sox of course

Being from this area, that is offensive. I don't root for either of these teams, but the area has a lot going for it.

But you are a great case in point, defending the place even as you say you are not a fan of either team!

But you are a great case in point, defending the place even as you say you are not a fan of either team! HOW does that make any sense? I guess you'd be surprised that there are a lot of fans.....A LOT....for both teams. One person, me, does not make your point. There are many people who follow these teams. The Lightning ticket is extremely hard to get and the Rays, because of that awful Trop, have record TV viewing. Yes I'm a Red Sox fan, so what!!

But I’ve seen the stands at Rays games (non-Covid edition). Hard to make the case they have captured Florida’s imagination. I don’t know about the Lightning because like most of America I had forgotten hockey was played professionally. What was the Stanley Cup on, like the Outdoor Life Channel? I can name more members of the Seattle Storm than, well, any NHL team.

I finally was able to catch some of the playoff baseball (no cable). I saw Mookie and I was really bummed. That said, I will be hoping he wins this series. The Rays can't be rooted for, under any circumstances.

The Rays just objectively don't have many fans compared to other teams. That's a kind of a weird point to argue.

The Rays have plenty of fans.... they also have a very nondescript "park". Their ST facility in Port Charlotte is a gem. Not an aficionado of hockey but their are gazillions of Canucks on the FLA west coast and I have been told Lightening tics are scarce.
Don't much care who wins.... just want good games. Wonder if Price regrets his decision to opt out now?

To recap ...
1st WS to be played on a neutral site.
1st WS since the start of interleague play in 1997 where the teams had no common opponents in the regular season. The Dodgers went 3-1 in a pair of 2-game series against the Astros, in July and September. The Rays went 2-2 against the Braves (but outscored them 24-16) in home-and-home series in July.
Rays are the first team in post-season history to have won a game 7 after losing three straight elimination games.
Dodgers are the first team in post-season history to have rallied from a 3-1 deficit after losing the first two games at home. [1]
Rays are second team in the 25-year history of the DS to have gotten to the WS via winner-take-all games in both the DS and CS (2012 Giants over Reds and Cardinals; they swept the Tigers).
Just the 3rd time in the 35-year history of the 7-game CS that both teams won WTA games to get to the WS (2003 Yankees over Red Sox, Marlins over Cubs; 2004 Red Sox over Yankees, Cardinals over Astros; in both WS a wild-card beat the team with the best record in MLB).
Just the 4th time since the DS began that the WS features the teams with the best record in both leagues (1995 Braves over Indians 4-2, 1999 Yankees over Braves 4-0, 2013 Red Sox over Cardinals 4-2.). It's happened in both of the shortened seasons, which is rather backwards. Teams with the best overall record are 1-2, so a Dodgers victory would match the 2013 Red Sox unique feat.
This is the first time that either the Rays or Dodgers have been involved in one of these rarities ... versus 4 times for the Yankees and 3 each for the Red Sox, Cardinals, and Braves, and twice for the Astros--once in each league.
[1] Almost all of the home-field advantage in baseball is getting to pitch first. Getting to bat last, and fitting your team to the park are much smaller factors, and the Dodgers would not have the latter playing in their park. Unlike every other major team sport, there is no advantage from the home crowd causing unconscious bias by the referees, which appears to be all of the advantage in football, basketball, and hockey.

Good timing for Mookie breaking out.
I'll be surprised if the Dodgers lose this series, just way more talent top to bottom.
