Definitely seemed like a quick hook. He got the number 3 and 4 batters out on two pitches after a very strong 5th, why not see if he can get Margot out and give him a chance in the 7th with the bottom of the order? Needing 10 outs from a shaky bullpen should make for an interesting finish.

Agree it was a quick hook, but Roberts has been burned a lot over the last few years being slow with the hook for Kershaw. There was some risk trusting May with how he's been recently, but he was obviously sharp tonight.

I’m sorry but tsutsugo doesn’t look like a major leaguer to me.
Also who is closing ?? Gaterol?

Good move by cash to force Roberts hand with the pitching change now he has two righties vs the lefty

I'm really loving the way the three-batter rule has played out. It limits pitching changes thereby speeding up the game, and it adds strategy. I wouldn't have been a fan of burning Choi just to get the Gonzalez-Brosseau matchup, but with Arozarena up next? Yeah, that makes some sense.

Question about the 3 batter rule.
Say there are two outs in an inning and the manager would like to go lefty on lefty and bring in a LOOGY-ish type, and the LOOGY gets his man and protects the 8th inning lead.
Does that mean he has to pitch that LOOGY to two more batters to start the 9th or can the manager switch over to his closer?
If the answer is he has to pitch in the 9th as well, maybe that forces some more 4 out saves from the closer?

The Rays had Kershaw on the ropes in the 4th inning when they had runners on 1st and 3rd and none out, but as soon as I saw that pop-up - was it by Wendle - well, I always have this thing that if a team has a runner on 3rd and none out and the next guy makes out #1, then outs #2 and 3 will quickly follow without the team scoring, and when you have a major squander like that it invites the other team to score, which is what happened with Muncy homered.
The Rays had their chances. This time they just didn't come through. When Arozarena flied out on the first pitch against the lefty Gonzalez, you had the sense it just wasn't their night.
Still, the Rays could force Game 7. Gonsolin vs Snell is a matchup you'd put in favor of the Rays, who have their pen fresh. If it did get to Game 7, I'd still take the Dodgers. Buehler has been about as good as it gets and he certainly isn't afraid of the spotlight.

Think of it that the point of the rule is to limit mid-inning pitching changes. The problem is if the LOOGY doesn't get the guy out, he's gotta stay in for at least 3 hitters.

If Jansen wasn't close to finished, this series would be already over.

Happy for Kershaw. This is a signature performance (no Don Larsen, but job well done). They had to gave the ship righted, and he did it. Sort of like Price with us... they can both always be remembered for positive contributions in the WS.

I'm very late to this, but the one thing I do not understand from last night is the Tsutsugo pinch hit appearance. Why send a guy who is notorious for struggling with fastballs out to face a pitcher who is throwing 101 with movement? That seemed unwise.

That had me scratching my head as much as Roberts sending Gonzalez in to get the key outs of the game, particularly against Arozarena, but to Roberts' credit, it worked. I would have simply have kept May in the game. I thought he looked good yesterday. But with this gamble, it saved his arm a bit so he should have a few more bullets for either Game 6 and/or Game 7.

My guess is that Cash was trying to get Roberts to over rely on the handedness matchup and turn to Gonzalez, and which point he would've subbed Brosseau. Almost certainly would've been happier pinch hitting for Tsutsugo than Choi, which is why he tried that first.

Than he would have been able to keep Diaz who was having a good game in vs a lefty Under that exact scenario he would have had Brosseau Diaz Arozerana vs the lefty And he would still have had Tsutsogo on the bench

Who remembers 2004 to 2008, five years when the losing WS team won a combined 2 games?
20-2 winning team record from '04 to '08 16-6 from '09 to '12. Epic 2011 series first to go the distance since 2002.
12-6 from '13 to '15. Giants / Royals goes the distance in 2014.
16-10 from '16 to '19. Every series but Sox / Dodgers goes the distance.
So the trend for more competitive series has already been upheld. Here's hoping for another game 7!

I know Snell has great stuff, that he doesn't live up to, IMO. However, it is amazing to watch ML hitters struggle when someone with his talents is on his game.

Yea that's tough. Top of the lineup coming up again but it's just 73 pitches and Snell still looked pretty sharp (also Betts, Seager, and Turner had all struck out twice against him in their two at bats).
