Since this seems to be headed downhill. Vlad holds the record for the youngest Bllue Jay to homer in a game. Which Boston World Champion held the record prior to Vlad? Sorry Alex…

I fthere is one thing that annoys me more about O'brien, it is that he calls a flyout that almost hits the wall a pop up.

At what point should we freak out I mean be concerned about the recent run of garbage pitching from our starters?

How bad has Marwin been? Franchy Cordero for the season: .179/.228/.274 (102 PAs) Marwin Gonzalez since 4/27: .179/.227/.286 (119 PAs) Gonzalez has been one of the worst hitters in baseball on pitches in the heart of the strike zone. Luckily he's also been the best defensive player on the club. I'm fine rolling with him the rest of the season in this role but won't miss him when he's replaced by Arauz next year.

on a positive note, the Phillies are handing it to the MFY But won only in 10...as Yanks scored 4 in the last 2 innings to tie..Chapman got the loss in 10. So sad...

Fun facts to know and tell: Mookie Betts hit his 6th homer of the year on Thursday. He has yet to hit one with runners on, with 2 outs, or with his team trailing. He has three leadoff homers (including the last one), a homer leading off the bottom of the 3rd with the Dodgers up 2-0, and two with 1 out in the top of the ninth with the Dodgers up 4-1 and 9-1.
I don't have to tell you what Christian Arroyo has done with his three homers, all in his last 8 games. Mookie's 6 have been worth a total .403 wins by WPA. Christian's 3 have been worth .817.
Betts is having a very un-Betts like year.

Yeah, the Sox hate lead off home runs. Or hits. Or walks. That is easily cured by having Verdugo lead off instead of Hernández, Gonzalez, or Santana Verdugo was an excellent lead off hitter in 2020, but Cora for some reason wants his best hitters 2-5. Until Bloom brings up Duran or someone else, the Red Sox 12 position players do not have the depth. The batting order (Verdugo, JD, X, Devers, Renfroe, Arroyo) 2-7 is leaving a gaping hole at 1, 8, and 9. Santana, Gonzalez, and Hernández just do not cut it. I can see one and could justify 2, but certainly not three utility players.

That is absolutely true!!!!.... but if these stats are the new Mookie Betts going forward, is he worth $30+ million per year? What you pay him you can not be using that money to pay someone else!

What you pay him you can not be using that money to pay someone else! This is an honest question: what *is* the 5th highest WAR player worth? If player x is on about a 7 WAR pace in a down year, what is the cash value of that? I’m not relitigating… genuinely wonder. Seems relevant as we look to X and Devers. When is $30 million worth it?

Disappointing game. Was hoping for a quality start and that the bats would hit a pitcher who has been so-so this year.
Instead, Pivetta puts them in an immediate hole (more annoyed about somebody getting on in front of Vlad Jr than giving up the HR to Vlad Jr. I think that guy is going to win the triple crown this year.)
And that's been going on all year. The script has been the starting pitcher puts the team in the hole, then walks a tight rope to keep the game from getting out of hand, and then the dormant offense scrambles back to life and gets in the game, and then eventually finds a way to pull it out.
That seemingly has happened more times than not.
But then there are days like yesterday when the starter puts them in a hole and the offense isn't game to scrambling back. And lately the holes have been getting bigger by mid innings.
Richards, Pivetta, and Perez who had been pitching so well (some might say much better than expected) are now struggling (or at least for Perez it was one horrendous start), so now I'm a little concerned about the rotation holding up, especially when E-Rod is also struggling as well. It's putting a lot of strain on the overachieving bullpen, and on days the Sox don't come back or lose one of their key four players to injury/day off, it highlights the amount of glaring holes in the lineup.
I'm like others in that I really don't want to see Marwin Gonzalez get so many damn ABs or have a leadoff hitter who flat out cannot get on base. Vazquez, surprisingly, hasn't shown the pop he has in the past couple of years, either. Dalbec, at least, has had much better looking ABs, and I keep hoping that Renfroe finds a way to keep this up while I wonder if Franchy, despite killing AAA pitching, gets another shot somehow, and if he did, would he ever prove to be more than a AAAA player?
The Sox have been awesome this year and as great as they've been, I don't think they've picked up a full game on TB in more than a month at any point. The Sox have been a consistent .600 team but they're losing ground to Tampa who's been an .800 team over the past month. TB can't keep playing .800 ball, can they?
And the Sox can't keep spotting the other teams the early lead (sometimes multiple runs) and expect to keep coming back constantly, despite 3 holes in the lineup, and win 60% of the time, can they?
For the Sox, the best thing they can do soon is get X back (sit down Marwin), get to the off-days, and beat up on the KC Royals because the Orioles aren't on the schedule for a little while. And bring up Jarren (take a seat Kiké).

Wait, why would one assume that? Mookie's numbers are down to merely good, but because of nagging injuries. Don't know if they'll always nag in the future, but if they don't, he hasn't suddenly lost what made him great. He's just playing well above average despite them.

I can see one and could justify 2, but certainly not three utility players. Moving the 2-5 guys up to be 1-4 has been the obvious move for months. Replacing Kikè with Arroyo has been obvious for weeks. But Cora won’t do either. He wants to make sure that Kikè gets more AB’s than Devers does. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
