They're meant to be a lot less formal than other threads on the forum, so to moderate them the same way would be silly. However, we do ask posters to maintain a certain level of decorum in these threads, and we plan on moderating the Gameday threads a little more actively this season. In particular, we ask that posters refrain from being overly repetitive with their posts (if you've made your point, let it go), refrain from monopolizing the discussion (if you are making more than a couple posts in a row, you probably need to slow down a little bit), and of course, follow the Ground Rules ( link). The point is to make these threads worth participating in and fun for all posters, from our long-time fixtures to people just signing up today. -The Management

Skipping Richards’ turn this time around would be best for the team.

I give him until the all star break
If he can throw like he did in the 2nd half of his last start he’ll be fine. Not spectacular, but fine
I think it’s more mental than anything else at this point. He’s still throwing 94 mph unintentional cutters, the only pitch that looks noticeably worse is his curve and it looks like he’s turning that into a rainbow curve. Never seen somebody lose a plus pitch like that essentially overnight

To be fair Richards did make a significant adjustment to his motion and pitch selection and was scoreless for 3+ innings after his last disastrous start. There's always hope.

I expect nothing from Richards. Honestly, more concerned about Pivetta. Other than the outing against the Rays he has not been very good for a bit now.

Skipping Richards’ turn this time around would be best for the team. If you HAVE to start Richards, Oakland is the place to do it. I bet he’ll do fine there.

They have the best record in the AL. They have the luxury of trying to see if they can get Richards figured out.

Is Houck lined up? 3IP Houck 2-3IP Whitlock sounds a lot better than Richards. Who gets DFA'd when you bring up Houk? At some point, unless Richards improves, a move will have to be made, but I don't think the time is now. Remember they will want to activate Ryan Brasier later on and maybe Kaleb Ort. And later in July we will activate Sale. Maybe someone gets hurt or a trade is made, and that opens a slot. I just don't think it happens now, unless Richards forces their hand with an appalling performance. But it's not just as simple as let's skip Richard's start. It affects the rest of the staff or squad.

I might have missed this but… is Houck close? He was out a while. Is there a theoretical ETA for him?

Houck made 4 starts in Worcester, the longest was 4IP, 67 pitches. So one or two more starts?

If Cora doesn’t hardly put them in with 4 run leads then I’m not sure both will survive when Houck is ready and provides more value. I understand there are guys that need to pitch innings when the Sox lose games 18-4 or win 15-1 but those games are fairly rare and I’m worried about the milege on Barnes, Ottavino and Sawamura.

I will pleasantly surprised if we win this series we haven’t been good In Oakland recently 3-8 in the last three seasons.

Houck is on the 40-man. You don't need to DFA anyone necessarily - you just need to make room on the active roster.
First two moves to make room in the bullpen are probably DFA Workman and option Rios, in some order.

But he's also going to be too good to option, I'm betting. Which is, by the way, a good thing. I'm starting a thread tonight or tomorrow.

C’mon now. Barring an epic collapse, TB will lose. Another chance to put some distance between them and the Good Guys.
