Thrilling play at the plate in the 10th. But, does Hernandez always need to leave his feet when he makes throws from the outfield?

The Red Sox should start getting Duran some reps at 2B because barring injury there is no room for him in this OF. CF defense is so important, and particularly at Fenway, that you can't sit Hernandez. Â I wish I could find someone who would bet with me on whether Duran has zero appearances at 2b in the next few years, or more than zero. Â I know what side I'd be on. Â Well, Mookie Betts did get to play a game at 2nd once in 2018.....so why can't Duran go back to a position he hasn't played in years and waste his speed? Hernandez was awesome in the 10th inning but at some point whether it is in July or Aug or even 2022 Duran is going to wind up in CF. That doesn't mean that the Sox can't shift Kiké from 2b into CF for late inning defensive purposes. You might recall the 2004 squad used to do that rather effectively with Mientkiewicz, Reese, Roberts, and Kapler on the bench. Likewise this team can do some of that as well.

Mookie Betts is a freakishly good athlete who was a pretty good minor league 2b who moved to rf because of Pedroia and the huge hole in rf. Yet even he did not return to 2b until his 5th year and then only briefly. There is no reason to talk about Duran and 2b.

Mookie is a great baseball player but athletically you might have to give the nod to JD. Not saying anything about playing 2nd or the outfield.

Duran might do better than Mookie in an NFL Combine type setting, but Mookie's harder-to-measure sense of propriception and coordination is off the charts.

The Sox could have kept Duran at 2b but opted to move him to CF. It's not like what Betts had, which was Pedroia blocking him, yet the Sox chose to convert Duran to CF so what does that tell you? It tells me they must not think he's a future gold glove 2b and it tells me they really hate the thought of wasting his incredible speed and think with experience he can use his speed to become a good defensive CF, so why would they undo all that to stick him back at 2b? The answer is they wouldn't.

Great win, defense and pitching getting it done, this is a fun team to watch and root for. Always a good time reading the game day thread the morning after a close win. Reading the comments and following the flow of the game, the ups the downs, you guys crack me up. And to the poster who complained about a "mail it in line up", this is the team that Cora has to manage and he is dong a MOY type job. After all that has occurred over the past few seasons and what is happening this year, Cora has to be the favorite for MOY at this point without a doubt. Up 4.5 in the east and #1 record in the AL #2 in all of baseball, impressive to say the leas. Keep it going!! Not only is Cora the favorite for MOY, I’m not even sure there’s anyone in 2nd place.

For some weird reason Red Sox managers don't win that award. John Farrell didn't win it for the huge turnaround in 2013. Terry Francona won it that year with Cleveland but wins 2 championships with the Sox but doesn't win the award while with Boston. Cora wins 108 freaking games on 2018 and doesn't get the award. So this year they'll give it to Bob Melvin or Kevin Cash or Dusty Baker. It's probably the large payroll that keeps Boston managers from winning the award.

Santana has been sneakily playing good baseball for a couple weeks now This is the biggest reason no Duran yet. And I’m fine with it.

This was the first time I’d heard Ellis Burks as a commentator and I really liked him. Breaks down the game really well. I switched to the A's broadcast right after he claimed Bogaerts was a very good defensive short stop. A little homerism is expected/appreciated, but c'mon.

I had the game on while I did stuff (until the 7th) ... he was a lot better than his first couple of games with Remy. Work in progress, still.

So the MFY start Montgomery who goes 4.1IP, 6H, 3ER...two relievers and 5 runs later they go to King who pitches 4IP, 3H, 0R, 9K. This is what we in the business call the "how to defeat yourself 101" ... you just hate to see it...BWAHAHAHHA
Anyways....DA YANKEES LOSE!!! and are 10 GB

Yankees 10 games out. Wow.
Just about everyone said they were a lock for 100 wins before the season. Now they need to go 59-22 the rest of the way to get there.

I guess they are always looking for a “doing more with less” candidate that a manager in a big market. But I would be pretty shocked if Cora didn’t win it this year. No team in the AL is overachieving as much as they are.
