Baez would be my preferred choice. We’ll see. A lot of good options hanging around but we have no idea what price point they’re thinking

Was thinking the same. He's best the most intriguing guy for a while to me, though with the disclaimer that I know less than nothing. Partially gut that they're going college guy, but mostly I expect he's going to need a good amount over slot at this point and don't think the Sox will (or should) be the team to give it to him.

I'm looking at Matt Mikulski and Andrew Abbott as potential underslot types (that are still really good).

If you had told me before the season that the Red Sox could walk away from the draft with Marcelo Mayer and one of Jud Fabian, Adrian Del Castillo or Jaden Hill...

Going with Jud Fabian as the leader to be the Sox 2nd round pick. You have to remember when Fabian was a top 5 pick in September that their were reports that the Sox really liked Fabian.

Do the Sox have any shot with Fabian or Del Castillo who were highly regarded before this season the injured Jaden Hill? I know the need to save money elsewhere, maybe with the 3rd pick? Or are these guys too expensive?

Oh yeah, I don't think we will or should take him (unless they know something, of course). I guess I was responding more on best available.

Mayer shoukdnt get a dollar over slot. What are the odds he turns down 6 mill plus from the RS, goes back in the draft and comes back in a few years guaranteed to go 1-1. 1-2, or 1-3. Signs for slot. I think the odds are much higher Mayer goes for slot, or even slightly under than some think. I think the Sox go a little over their slot just on principle. They may not have to but it's the right way to start off with this kid. It's a good business decision to treat him respectfully and with appreciation up front.

I'm fully expecting them to Nick Yorke this #40 pick; they probably need to go underslot and we know they're confident in their own evaluations so they'll be content to choose a more obscure guy.
Hopefully it works out as well as it has so far with Yorke...

You guys can tell me if I'n wrong, but it seems like we'll know how bad Mayer's demands are by who we take 40th. I mean, I would doubt we'd go under slot there to set up a later pick. I'd think if we do, it's to get sad dough for Mayer.

Feels un-American to have to work tomorrow. I’m still wired. Might need an edible to go to bed.
Marcelo Mayer! Just a big, fat, glorious W.

Looking to the future, how do the Sox project in 2025 (assuming Xander and Devers resign)?
1st: Casas 2nd: Downs SS: Mayer/Bogaerts??? 3rd: Devers
Yorke probably moves to OF

One guy I’m high on is Irving Carter . He’s the second starter behind Andrew Painter same high school team Calvary Christian Academy .Miami commit . 3 pitch pitcher sits 91- 94 mph maxes at 96. Also he has a good curveball and a split change up. Very poised seems unfazed in high pressure games.

I think the odds are much higher Mayer goes for slot, or even slightly under than some think. +1 on this. That's a huge gamble for him, pushing away $6.6m, particularly from a marquee franchise that figures to contend most years. There's also injury risk and the possibility that he hits free agency a year or two later -- is USC going to going to get him to the bigs faster than the Sox? I'm sure it was disappointing that he slid from hearing he everyone say he would go 1-1 to going 1-4 but it's still life-changing money for his family. Also, here's how it went down: the Pirates asked "how low can you go?" and Davis went lower; the Rangers were on Leiter all the way; and the Tigers likely went way under for Jobe, as well, so he was never truly in play for any of them.
The worst case scenario for the Sox is that he walks and they pick #5 next year but I really don't see that happening.
