Kate Morrison reported that Austin Brice is in Worcester, so it looks like he's the Duran countermove. We'll see if the other countermove is Chavis optioned or Gonzalez to IL.

I can't imagine anyone is trading for Santana. He's waiver fodder at this point imo. Only question is whether they can do that before he gets healthy or not. I'm not going to go checking rosters, but it certainly seems possible that there's a team whose last man on the bench is also having a bad year, and who is both less versatile and has less of a track record establishing upside than Santana. IOW, they'd be interested in him for precisely the same reasons we were.
It is true that you need two such teams before he has minimal trade value. Again, though, with 15 to 17 contenders, it's not that outlandish that two teams might have interest in him.

OK, I'll clarify to "I can't imagine anyone is trading more than nominal value for Santana." Maybe they get the old "PTBNL or cash" return.

It just occurred to me why teams trading for players in this situation are so often give up for a low-minors prospect no one has heard of and who has no chance of contributing anything. It's so that the player who you're trading for doesn't believe he's worthless.
The Sox' hope is that they can trade him and get the other team to pay something like $650K of his salary, prorated, thus saving $80K (prorated) of AAV towards the tax limit compared to losing him on waivers.
Now, with Brice in Worcester it does look like he''s staying on the 40-man and will get a chance to at least hit in AAA on a rehab stint.

Doesn’t Brice have to be DFAED in order to be sent down to Worcester? I know that’s what happened last time he went down (I believe it was like a couple of weeks ago) My bad 🤦♀️ It happened May 21st. Yes, he has no more options. He has no more options today.

Santana's trade market is limited to teams who are in contention and need a versatile bench player. No out-of-contention team wants Santana when they can just call a guy up and give him a try-out.
However, I would guess that any contending team that might be interested in Santana would be much more interested in Marwin...

And so would the Red Sox be not likely to trade Marwin for a PTBNL.

Those of us who have been calling for Duran are now smiling like the Cheshire Cat. Keep it up, Jarren.

Duran just ran down a fly ball like he’s been doing it all his life. I am still waiting to see Duran misplay ball after ball hit his way. Hint to the naysayers: it is not going to happen. Not that he will be JBJ, but he is also likely to be an average to above average fielder.

“Likely to be” as in you don’t think he’s there yet right now. Which was the entire point. Nobody has ever said he couldn’t become an average to above average fielder given reps.
Why are we taking victory laps on a guy everybody knew would be up at some point this year to spark the team?

Is there anything we can take on Durans defence? I did see a clip of the catch tonight in LC. He seemed to take a decent route to it and make it look routine.

I said nothing about his current ability because we have not yet seen enough from him defensively. How can you come to your conclusion that he is not there yet? Have you seen anything in his play so far that suggests he is currently below average? Are you another Duran naysayer who will only be satisfied if he makes a slew of mistakes?

It means you’re at the very least not sold on it. I’m not coming to any conclusions and I’m very much rooting for him to succeed, I just don’t understand the victory lap and think it’s relatively pathetic. That’s all! Also who on earth is rooting against him??? “Another” naysayer??? Sorry some people aren’t throwing a 60 grade on his glove right now, it doesn’t make them a naysayer. It also doesn’t mean he can’t get really good out there, he’s certainly athletic enough to be. I haven’t seen a single person root against him.
