As noted in the MiLB gameday thread, Jarren Duran is on his way to NY to join the Red Sox.

Sweet!!!! Very excited to begin the hot start-->excessive hype from fans-->league adjusts-->cold stretch-->excessive pessimism from fans-->slow settling in as a solid major leaguer over the course of 1-2 seasons process!

I will not say it is about time. I do not predict the second coming of Rickey Henderson or even Jacoby Ellsbury. But, this is a guy who could hit with good power, with enough on-base success to become the leadoff hitter the Sox need so badly. He steals bases, he runs like the wind. We will see how he fields. There is incredible potential here.
But there are no guarantees. Baseball does not work that way. Let the excitement begin, and may the baseball gods smile on the Sox and on Jarred Duran.

So much for easing him into things a bit(as they could have with the just-completed West Coast trip). Instead, let him debut in Yankee Stadium! Very excited to see how he looks in the lineup. I’m guessing he won’t bat leadoff right away, but he should get there soon enough.

The next question is about the Sox lineup. We will see soon enough where they put Duran in the order. Early on, I hope it is towards the bottom. Like many players, he has shown growing pains as he has moved up. And he has overcome them. If he hits, gets on base, uses his speed well, then he could potentially move to leadoff, which would be a great boon for the Sox.
Will Kiké return more or less full time to the infield? Will Duran play against LHPs early on? Or regularly?
Who leaves the lineup? Dalbec or Arroyo? Would the Sox play Kiké at 1B where he has played or try Arroyo there?
Chavis seems the likely man out in this scenario, just as he has been all year. Santana may also be excused. More likely that than Marwin.
And does this move pretty much take a big deal addition off the boards for the Sox? It would seem so unless a true blockbuster addition were possible. Freddie Freeman? Well, we can always dream.

So I see people online talking about getting Arroyo reps at 1B
Am I the only one that thinks they’d put Kikè there instead?
Edit: just read the post above mine, I am not alone lol
I wonder if they called him up to hopefully get him some confidence with that short porch in right

High Hosey...
First PA HR but an inside the parker just past the outstretched glove of Noneck Gardner who was his most common pre-power comp. It would have been an out if Gardner hadn't lost a lot of steps over the years.

His teammates talk about the energy he brings, that is what I hope to see. Remember Jacoby scoring from 2nd on the passed ball, that kind of aggressive energy is how he can impact the lineup.

Would think maybe a reconstruction of the lineup to where Verdugo is hitting first and he's hitting second might be more optimal, but I'm not that well versed on lineup theory (actually if someone can link me a good article on it I'd be interested in reading more about it).

To me, Verdugo (and X) are the two best situational hitters on the team. Perfect for when Duran is on base. Not that he'll be Ricky but Ricky Henderson had a lot of power yet always batted leadoff. He's generally regarded as the best leadoff batter of all time. Ricky is one of only two players (Nolan Ryan) that I can say I paid to see specifically (no interest in their teams).

Forget Freeman. I have my sights on Anthony Rizzo. Cubs are going nowhere and he’s about to walk anyway. Get the band back together.

My guess is that Verdugo might get a day here or there as he has been scuffling so Duran could play some LF, but I'd expect him to play mostly center with Kiké shifting to 2b. Then later in the game Kiké would shift to CF and Arroyo would come off the bench to play 2b. Against lefties I'd expect Duran to hit the bench and Kiké play CF with Arroyo at 2b.
With Duran around I can see days off around the diamond where they use Kiké's flexibility. I can see X getting a day off and Kiké playing SS. Then they can rest Devers with Arroyo playing 3b or 2b with Kiké playing the opposite position. Renfroe can get a breather as well with an OF alignment of Duran/Kiké/Verdugo.
What I don't see is Arroyo or Kiké playing any 1b. Bloom will square that away in a couple of weeks with a trade, probably Cooper or Rizzo.
And I don't see Duran look leading off unless he is hitting well and Kiké is slumping. I anticipate he'll bat 9th. Even though I do hope he winds up in the lead off spot. As long as he can get on base enough, whether he hits for power or not is kind of irrelevant.

If Duran performs like we can realistically expect, this is a big step toward cleaning up the bottom of the roster. He should play every game against RHP. Against LHP, Verdugo (.506 OPS) has to sit. If Cora feels the need to also sit Duran against LHP, Marwin Gonzalez (.788 OPS) might be a non-terrible alternative. (Reality check: Marwin has hardly any platoon split for his career.)
I'd like to see a deadline move for a 1B who can give us league-average production. I sit up and watch when Bobby Bombs comes up because there's a chance of a moonshot. But he's on pace for nearly -2 WAR. I can't imagine going into the PS with that kind of liability.
For perspective on how bad Bobby has been, consider this: In 2015, the only year he played full-time for us, Pablo Sandoval was -.5 WAR. He was a very bad BB player. But Bobby has been a VERY, VERY bad BB player.

I suspect that the Sox do not give up on him because of his obvious potential. But Duran’s arrival does suggest changes.

Pumped to hear this. Hoping that for the most part he plays every day, and Kiké moved into the rotation Marwin/Santana spot (so still playing daily, just shuffling around the diamond). Very interested to see how his defense is.

It'll be interesting to see if Franchy is right behind him. As good as Duran has been in AAA (and especially in Worcester), Franchy has been even better. If they're planning on Franchy playing at 1B, he's still only played 4 games there, so you'd think they'd want to see/coach at least a dozen or so more. Santana, Chavis, Brice, Marwin, Dalbec... there's lots of guys they can either cut or try to trade to make room for Duran, Franchy, Brasier, eventually Sale...
