So far I’ve only seen it reported by this one news station, but it looks to be true. RIP RemDawg.

Damn, that hits hard. I sensed the end was coming when he had the oxygen tube running to his nose at the WC game. That, plus the fact that he had barely survived so many times, was discouraging.
He didn't have an easy life with the depression, the screwed-up kid and the cancer. I wish his family well.
If anyone on this board smokes cigarettes, please stop. Jerry was a former athlete with access to healthcare. He should have lived another 20 years.

Its awful. It didn't look good for him when he made his last appearance. This guy fought a lot of times when cancer came back. Evil evil illness. RIP

Oh no
I didn't realize it was his *seventh* cancer battle. That is really brutal.

Very sad to learn of Jerry Remy's passing.
I remember him going back to his leadoff days with the Red Sox.
I have always enjoyed him as a broadcaster. He really grew into the role.
I enjoyed his sense of humor which really came out during the Don Orsillo era. And I found him very astute with his observations. I also enjoyed watching Dennis Eckersley work with him and the stories they'd tell.
I'll miss him. It won't feel the same without him.

This one really hurts. He was a staple in so many people’s lives here, whether you knew him or not. Red Sox games won’t be the same in 2022.

So many great moments, most about baseball, but one of my favorites involved him and Orsillo discussing, with multiple replays, a piece of pizza thrown at a fan teaching for a foul ball. “Between innings we did some investigative reporting.” “Here comes the pizza.” 3:35 video

Too young to see him play but will forever hear his voice color-calling games. Mr. Red Sox, never took himself or the game too seriously.
My favorite random memory is when he realized he'd been mispronouncing the Amica Stike Zone for years and no one corrected him.
The Dave, Eck and Jerry booth brought out the best in all three when they worked together in recent years.

God bless. Great player, great announcer. I know he had a difficult personal life after baseball but you'd never know it from the glee he and Orsillo brought to the booth. Eck in the later years was a perfect complement to Remy. Just hard to hear. RIP.
(and everyone throw a slice of pizza today. he'd love it.)

Two conversations I'll always remember:
During a game about four or five years ago, Rod Carew was in the booth. Rod had gone through some brutal health issues. The concern in Jerry's voice came through vividly as he asked Carew questions about his condition. They were never teammates but they were contemporaries in MLB and it pained Jerry to think about a well-respected fellow warrior in distress.
The second one was around that same time. Jerry and Eck and were discussing the 1978 one-game playoff. It was clear they were still in pain over it. Losing it changed their lives.

So sad to hear this. Have been a Sox fan since 1989 and Jerry’s voice has always been there to mark the passage of time and my love of the Red Sox. Rest In Peace.

This is heartbreaking. We should all remember how lucky we were to have such a talented, one of a kind broadcaster. He was from Somerset, played with a generation of Sox legends, and in many ways underrated as a broadcaster in how well prepared and knowledgeable he was. It was as he were just another New Englander in the booth, only with actual playing experiences and first-hand stories spanning 50 years in the game. Don’t take anything for granted and let’s cherish the eternal memories he gave us!

I think I loved Remy and Eck bantering as much as I love the Sox themselves. I’ll miss that. Remy brought a lot of pleasure to people’s lives, a life well lived and over too soon.

I remember him playing but his real impact on Sox nation was in the booth. His ability to do his job with the personality he brought when enduring so many difficult times is an inspiration to always hold your head high and persevere. The booth was his sanctuary, it kept him going.
RIP Remdog

One of my earliest memories of Remy was a silly moment during a broadcast where he was doing an air guitar solo and fell over backwards in the office and Orsillo kept replaying the blooper during the game.

He did a wonderful job of making the game accessible as a color commentator. Threaded the needle perfectly between explaining the game and being fun as hell.
His life, as lived out in public for better or worse, was also just SO human, no? The highest of highs and lowest, at times, of lows.
Man, this hits hard. Rest in Power, Remdawg.
