Yeah, not a lot of national reporters stepping up to confirm Nightengale's scoop... at least not yet.

Ok so now we discuss where he plays.
My guess on a contract is 4/115-125

Well, I hope it works. I guess this might mean goodbye to Xander, which is extremely irksome. My concern is this is more in the Hanley, Crawford, Panda line: need to make a move, last man standing, not necessarily what you want but there it is.
If it is cheaper than expected, and if he is cool at 2b going forward, fine.

I was starting to get my mind wrapped around the current roster and thinking it was ok but this is definitely better. And I am not going to concern myself too much with the contract, whatever it isn't my money, I just hope it isn't something that could drag them down on the back end too much.

Very interested to see these contract details. My guess a couple days ago was 6/112.
If it's over 20AAV they're probably over the luxury tax, and at that point you might as well add Conforto too. Conforto also only costs a third round pick now

Would love to know how we got him. I am pleasantly surprised. The Astros seemingly made the most sense for him.

That's a pretty significant contract.

That's a pretty significant contract. 23 per year and I think it helps set Xanders market too at well under 30m per year.

Does anyone have any insight into CBT rules? I was thinking Chaim should go with an "x+1" philosophy with an opt out. So if story wants a 5/125 contract give him a 6th year worth like $1 million but have an opt out after the 5th yr. Story will automatically opt out and become a free agent after the 5th yr, but the total contract would go from 5/125 to 6/126 to reduce AAV and count less towards the CBT. Seems like something most teams should do. CBT loophole? Or is it just the fact that players want to have high AAVs for precedent so they avoid this?

No opt out until Mayer and Yorke are ready.

Well I was wrong and I am glad as I see this as a contract that is very favorable to the Sox in comparison to the other deals inked by similar players. Almost seems like the Sox got a hometown discount. And it also helps with the Xander extension to a certain degree as it sets the market for the team.
This is a good day for Sox fans IMO.

it is a significant upgrade,so there is plenty reason to be happy. He is going to be going to harder league and 2B is not valued as much as SS, so there is a chance we could be getting a player that won't live up to this contract. If it portends to a Xavier exit, which seems likely, it is gonna hurt me.
Hope he does very well and it looks as if the FA flowers have Bloomed.

Interesting structure if accurate. These serial player opt outs seemed to me to tip the balance completely in the player’s favor, and tying the club’s hands in planning further complementary moves. This is a way to say’ you’re free to go back to the market in year 4, but we have the right to keep you around for an additional year if things are working out, even at a premium price’. It seems to be a right tied to the 4th year opt out, in other words, it can’t be used to tie Story down unless he’s decided to go back to the market.
