No structural damage to Lackey's elbow, just inflammation. The likely plan is to skip his next start (off-day Tuesday) and see if he can make the start after that (depending on how he responds to anti-inflammatory treatment). So no Aceves for now, hurray!

We're still going to need Aceves on Sunday. Lackey's start was going to be Friday. He's not going to be ready to go on Sunday either. The key date is the following Friday Apr 19th. Will he be ready then? That way we only get Aceves for one start.

It's not the elbow for Lackey, either, which is good news. Biceps strain with no structural damage - basically a severe cramp. They will probably look at a 2nd opinion on the MRI and see if he can do some kind of throw and catch without pain/discomfort. If so, and there's no pain, bullpen would likely be next. Cautiously optimistic.
As for Aceves/spot start issues, I am usually not one to push prospects before they're ready, but if it is a retro DL stint, I'd rather bring up Webster for a spot start next Sunday against the Rays with Aceves & Mortensen in reserve. 1) The stuff is electric and the Rays have not faced him before. Because of his past control issues they may opt to sit and try to drive pitch count, which could work to his advantage getting strike 1 & 2 (if he's on); 2) if he craters you can piece the game together with the other two and not blow-up the pen. 3) He seemed to have the head for it based on that oh-so-short sample of spring.

That sequence of pitches from Buch to Adam Jones was quite amazing.

Struggling against lefties continues. Quite weird for this rhb heavy lineup.

Clay Buchholz is a good pitcher, and I'm glad he's on the Sox, but the dude looks like someone who would kidnap my family on our camping trip in the Ozarks ...

F--- I hate all these soft tossing lefties. Another shut-out today. I thought for sure this team would destroy lefties and dominate at Fenway. Chen is looking good today, but I was hoping our lefty killers could do damage even against top lefties. I was hoping that the Happ game was the "anomaly" game, but here we are again.

Chen isn't a soft tossing lefty. Hopefully, Clay gets thru this inning and the Sox get him a run.

Buchholz has looked solid again. Even if we don't win we should be encouraged by the early pitching we've gotten.

Good job, Buchholz for another good start game. I'm pissing off that they cannot hit against soft tossing lefties. Hope that one of our line up can crack him this 7th inning for run before our bullpen calls up for next 2 innings. Very important to win the game on Opening Day.

As Speier points out, 6 of Buch's 8 K's came on his fastball on the outside corner. Additionally, his change looked filthy at times this year, and his curve showed potential. I love the movement on his fastball, and overall, this could be the year he puts it all together IMO.
