Robles has given us some good innings while he had the pedal to the floor, but now he's hurt and he's worse than the random waiver wire guys we could be cycling through. The Sox just traded for James Norwood. You got to think Robles DFA with Norwood's activation is the next move. Thanks for the late run last year Robles. Nice knowing you. Good luck.

Judging by the drop in velo I think it’s more likely you see Robles on the IL than anything else

James Norwood..another bandaid on a deep cut. DFA'd twice and he is going to be the solution. The floors are covered with stickemless alternatives.

Who said he’s a solution? I bet they’re gonna try to sneak him through to Worcester

Good thing didn’t trade a washed up reliever for Seabold & Pivetta. Honestly, what kind of comment is this? Guy had some intriguing skills, why not take a flyer? NO COST. You only want proven guys?

No. we have a lot of proven guys that cam prove they can walk,Hit batters and give up homeruns after a walk or HBP.

Outcome was really never in doubt, especially after not taking advantage of Hudson's wildness. So almost better that the less reliable relivers (Robles, Sawamura) out of the bullpen continued to not provide false hope going forward in a game that was already lost. We all have known what they are after last season and through 66 games this season, and that is they are not going to be consistently good enough in game-in-the-balance spots. Replacements for them don't grow on trees, and trades for quality arms are nearly impossible right now unless you are willing to blatantly overpay.
Unfortunately we aren't likely to have meaningful replacements prior to making the trip next weekend to CLE and then to TOR. After TOR the calendar changes to July, and the Sox should still be in relatively good shape. But looming will be home and road series with both TB and MFY, followed by the inverse home series against TOR and CLE. That is a tough July, and it would sure be great if Chaim can make some moves to bolster that bullpen that could impact some of those games.

Bednar from the Pirates is one I would definitely target.

Bednar from the Pirates is one I would definitely target. I feel so many of are in house options may be the best. And see what we have. I’m not Im much of a fan of Crawford of wincowski,, but probably as good as sawumura if the rotation solidifies. The real addictions will be getting Evo and Whitlock back. Adding sale Paxton and Taylor and maybe even Barnes, plus the posible promotions of mata and Bello. Realisticly all 8 of these players probably won’t contribute much the rest of the way. That said on pure talent and stuff and history that is 1/2 your staff. Dosnt leave that much room

Meh. Bad night, but the Cards are really good. Can’t win them all. The pen has not been as bad as it feels after a night like this. Schrieber and Strahm, for example, look very tough. Houck will be fine.
I don’t think the pen is a catastrophe. If they got a great a arm, great, obviously. But I *still* think the OF is the target (or 1b… it is sort of an overlapping issue).

Partly, I think this team has got away with having a bullpen that is 2/3s dreck. We have a couple decent guys Schreiber, Houck, Strahm maybe Davis. The rest of the bullpen is full of cast offs, projects they thought they could "fix, waiver wire claims and guys who maybe have 1 plus pitch. They hit paydirt on Schreiber and Whitlock, but they all can't be wins or steals. It's time to trim the fat... No more Sawamuras, Braziers, Robles, Danishes, etc. etc. Bring up the kids, Bello, Murphy, Walter, Mata, Politi, even Seabold would be a decent swingman.

Hey, here's an idea - rather than "getting nothing," how about the Sox extend Xander for five more years?

Because I'd be shocked he's settling for 5 years. My guess is he's going for 8, which would be the same age Seager is signed through and likely where Correa's contract will land as well.
Seager at 30M+ per year signed through age 37, how can Xander not ask for 8/240M?

Than we have to remember, we need to sign Raffy, another boat load of money. The Dodgers have the best prospects, Marlins and the Cards, I don't see the Marlins spending. in X. With Mookie going down, who knows for how long, the Dogers are going to try to replace his production and with X doing well right now, this is the perfect situation, where we sell high and they buy because they need. On top of that, he will need to be moved out of SS, soon or later and as RS fan, the improvement of the team going forward, requires drastic measures so we can content year after year, regardless who the players are. We are the Boston Red Sox and not the X Red Sox or Y Red sox, we have lost great players and we still here battling, this is now big business and big money, for us to be looking at 1 player, that can affect, a 40 players team roster, plus all the system behind.

We have a contending team this year. Henry would never allow it. The opt out when he signed was the cost of doing business. Not trading him should not be looked as lost opportunity. It is a fallacy that you can just have major roster turnover every year and contend as you and I want. You need some stud player. reliability. If you can prove otherwise, and please don't say Tampa because they aren't our market type, I would love to hear it.

Seager at 30M+ per year signed through age 37, how can Xander not ask for 8/240M? Seager's deal would have two more prime seasons in it at that AAV. 8/240 for a 30 year old is a much less attractive deal than 10/300 for a 28 year old. Seager's also a big outlier among SS signed this past offseason and a clear overpay in my opinion given his injury history. Xander might well ask for that money, but good luck getting it. I'd be annoyed if the Sox offered him anything close to 8/240 and he means more to us than he would to anyone else. Edit: Now that I think about it I think Seager was like 10/320 or 10/325. That's closer to 8/240 for an older player in value. I don't think either is remotely worth it, though. The one exception would be if Seager can stay healthy over the whole deal, but good luck with that.

I rather open the safe to Raffy, for the next 10 years, he may one day become the next big thing next to Big Papi.

I rather open the safe to Raffy, for the next 10 years, he may one day become the next big thing next to Big Papi. He is pretty much the next big thing already. I was looking at this team’s numbers today, and it is amazing how top heavy they are. You have the obvious guys, JDM, X, Devers, and Story… the Rensnyder in bWAR. I guess you can look at it two ways: a) take X’s $$, try to spread it to two lesser-but-decent guys, lengthen a short lineup; or b) you cab’t lose one of four great hitters (well, maybe 2, since JDM might be gone and that *assumes* Raffy gets resigned). I am a (b) guy. There is plenty of payroll to have Raffy and X here ~8 more years and fill out a great roster. And (a) might bring in a few guys in uniform, but a lineup of Kikés and Verdugos might put together good years, but they are not nearly as interesting.
