Agree to disagree. This is where the term “most valuable” is so important. It isn’t the “highest WAR” award. Trout and Ohtani are both ridiculous, but the team is a perennial non-factor. Devers and Xander probably split the Red Sox vote to an extent. Ramirez is the star on a potential playoff team, so he is definitely in the mix. But if the Yankees cruise to 110 wins and the #1 seed, Judge will be hard to beat. He’s really the only guy in that lineup that is having a huge year. Rizzo and Stanton are hitting a lot of HR’s, but little else. He’s carrying the best team in baseball and that makes him the HEAVY favorite IMO. I don't agree. A player has no control over who his teammates are and shouldn't be punished for it if they aren't a playoff team. Besides, the Red Sox are 19-4 in June, so the Yankees are not running away with anything. They have the same records over the last 40 something games.

MLB.com apparently runs a vote on the end-of-season awards every week. Here is how they have it as of 6/23(first place votes in parentheses)...
1. Judge(27) 2. Ramirez(11) 3. Trout(5) 4. Devers(2) 5. Yordan Alvarez(2) 6. Ohtani(3)

If the season ended today it would be Judge and the voting wouldn't even be close. JimEd disagrees. I think it’s a slam dunk as of now. But if Judge gets hurt or if the Yankees hit an extended rough patch, that could make it more interesting.

I wish this wasn’t the case, but April and May DO count in the standings. The Yankees currently have an 11 game lead as we head towards July.

Running away with the division implies that the lead is growing quickly. It hasn't grown at all.

No, running away with the division implies having a large lead, and I'd say a double digit lead, especially only 70 games into the season qualifies as running away with the division as in the Yankees, despite having 3 other strong teams in the division, with a 12 game lead, are running away with the division. I know it's hard to give the Yankees credit for anything, but it is what it is. The Red Sox, playing the easiest stretch of their season, dominated, played .700 ball and still gained no ground on the Yankees who have been spectacular since the beginning of the season, which the Sox weren't.

Well I define running away as getting further away, since that's what english means.

Not exactly complicated english here. The Yankees lapped everybody else in the first quarter of the season and have maintained and even increased their lead. I mean, we're picking gnats here. Do the Yankees have a huge freaking lead in this division or not? But if it soothes you to say that the Yankees are crawling away with the lead, have at it.

If you are running away from me, are you not getting further away from me? Why do I have to explain this? Running at the same speed in the same direction is not running away. It's just running. The Yankees got off to a big lead and are still at that same lead. They are maintaining their lead, not expanding it. And of course at some point, they will slump.
