Sox draft tendency guide: Strong: All the money goes to hitters Strong: The high school picks are all young for their class Medium: The premium capital hitters are mostly out of high school Medium: Lower value picks are mostly college pitchers Medium: Not that closely aligned with the media big boards Weak: Hit tool focus Weak: Prefer to save money in the first Not a thing: California shortstops Did I miss any? Last year they drafted a lot of college pitchers with interesting pitch characteristics, might be a new trend.

If they went full slot on a guy like Miller at 14, I wonder if there's some good savings on a local college kid in Honeyman at 50 and make some financial promise to get the same kid they've been targeting at 83

I wonder if they’ll use one of their comp picks to take a top senior sign, that’s about when they start going off the board and saving ~$500k is no small change.

Well thats moderately terrifying. I'm not sure I even like him at #50.

I'm not a big fan of that Luke Keaschall rumor this morning. But if the Sox are going for the big time saving route, I'd have no problem taking Gino Groover and just moving him to LF immediately.

I’m trying to bury that Keaschall thing in my mind too. If they didn’t get Peete after that I would be depressed. They’d need to really hammer the HS upside pool with their next 5 picks to make that much of an underslot pick work in my eyes.

This report doesn't scare me as much as the one on draft day 2021 and the McClain underslot rumor I'm happy to have Mayer no doubt but in hindsight if Mayer had been taken higher as many expected McLain would not have been a bad consolation prize, quite the opposite. He's already in the MLB and has 1.9 fWAR as a SS for the Reds. He'd look nice in a Sox uni playing SS for them right now that's for sure.

Nobody would be complaining if McLain led to James woods. Regardless of R1 we should wait until the top 10 are finished before we freak out.

Whatever you do, don't do the research to find out who the only player available at the 2021 Red Sox 2nd round pick who got much more than slot at that pick and wasn't a HS pitcher was.

I trust this front office drafting process, their track record the last 3 years is very satisfying in my opinion. Unrelated but I gotta say Dollander is giving me some serious Anthony Ranaudo vibes.

I wish he would finish out his U Maine career but understand why it is in his best interest to pursue a pro career now. Would love to see the Sox pick him in his projected range. Quinn would fill seats at Hadlock for a season for sure. At this time next year, Jermiah Jenkins, U Maine 1B, will very likely be in the discussion for top 2-3 rounds if he duplicates his performance to date.

Thomas White, Tai Peete and Alex Clemmey are 3 upside talents from Mike's preview I would be happy with.

Would bet good money the pick at 14 is someone who hasn’t been mocked to the Sox once this year

Me too, I feel good about the drafting too. That’s why this year is gonna be so good. They get extra cash and extra prospects.
