How soon is too soon to start up the 2023 Draft thread? Dylan Crews is looking really nice at the moment If you are going to start that thread, you gotta start with Rowley's own Thomas "T-Bonz" White. We just might be bad enough this year to have a shot at taking him.

I think it's fine for us to have 2023 draft thread now, but please keep the focus to the actual draft or the Sox draft position and not about the Sox's play in 2022 (there are other threads for that). Also, a reminder that the lottery starts in 2023: www.tankathon.com/mlb/pick_odds

All aboard the Dylan Crews hype-train Dylan Crews is amazing, and not that I have access to the numbers, but apparently his exit velo numbers are elite. Just to nitpick a tiny bit however, he strikes out more than I'd like. Jacob Gonzalez, however (of a surprisingly bad Ole Miss team this year), is putting up "gotta be some sort of mistake here" level SO/B numbers. He doesn't quite impact the ball the way Crews does, but he still hits for really good power and I feel like he's been unlucky from a batting average perspective. Plus, unless he outgrows it, he could play an above average short. Crews is more likely than not a right fielder at the next level, though he could be quite a good one depending on how it all shakes out. Someone like Brock Wilken (Wake) or Jared Dickey (Tennessee) or any number of SEC pitchers could step up.

I do not advocate tanking, but I have to admit "lose for Crews" is catchy as hell. He's really good.
EDIT: He went through a bit of a sophomore slump in early April but he's at .524/.615/1.286 with 5 homers in 26 May plate appearances. Just four strikeouts in that stretch as well.

Also, in the case that the big league squad rights the ship at least a little bit and assuming they don't join a nuclear power plant softball team like the college pitchers this season have, it should be a fairly deep college pitching class if they're interested in anyone there.

I am all for tanking and reverse standings threads and selling veterans for prospects at the trade deadline, but only once we get to the trade deadline. Whether we are good or bad might as well try to be the best at it.

You know depending on how things shake out the SOX might be big players in this draft.

Keith Law in his chat this week said the college talent in the first round especially will be much better than this year, which he called a "mah" overall talent-wise in general.

Let's do it. Roman Martin is a prep shortstop from Anaheim who has good athleticism, a projectable body, and a hit tool that is far ahead of his current power. He's been a two-way player who hits the low-90s on the mound but is definitely a position player first, and his range makes him likely to stick at short. UCLA commit.

Even the name is too good.

What's the point in waiting? Get on your bandwagons now. Rather than a toe-tap or a leg-kick, his timing mechanism appears to be getting into that Plantierian crouch and then his swing just springs him out of it.

He does that initial step when the pitcher is in motion, and then the timing mechanism appears to be that tiny front heel lift. Not a whole lot of wasted energy.
