McLean and Sproat will be in this class as they couldn’t come to terms with the O’s and Mets.

I’m going to follow the top 50 pitchers. Hope we get 3 of em. Power arms. No soft tossing lefties; Brian Johnson, Henry Owens or Trey Ball types.

Right. Never understood taking soft tossers over power arms. If he fails as a starter, you can put him in the bullpen and have a bunch of guys throwing 100mph.

Nice! So what we need to do is figure out which California high school shortstops will be available in the middle of the first round.

We will finish in the bottom 5 and the draft lottery gods will give us the......3rd pick. It's our destiny, finish last place and win the WS next year.

The Red Sox seem destined to sit somewhere in the 12th to 15th spot in the tankings (tank rankings). With 35 games left they’re 20 games out of the top spot. Obviously not coming close to that. I think their ceiling is that of a 10th pick (lottery results non-withstanding). They’re currently 6.5 games back of the Marlins there. Realistically, I don’t think they’ll fall that far. I think this team is too streaky good to bomb the rest of the year. They’ll have series where they suck (Toronto), but they’ll have series where they play a bit of spoiler (current Rays series). They’ll probably end the year playing just below .500, where they have been for most of the year. They’re also getting healthy finally. I think it’s too late for them to make the playoffs, but with 26 of their remaining 35 games against teams in the playoffs or in the hunt, they can make some noise with a hot finish. They’ll end up in the late lottery and we’ll be sitting here praying for the lottery gods to smile on us.

Tankathon update on 2023 MLB draftAll 18 non-playoff clubs will enter a lottery for the top six picks. The percentage chances of each team getting the No. 1 choice, in reverse order of winning percentages.

My 4,589th click got us the #1 pick!!!!!
Actually, it took me 3 to get 5. Getting lucky and ending up in the 5-10 range is much more reasonable.

We need to cruise for Crews the rest of the year.
Anyways, we won't end up worse than 11 unless we really tank and sit Raffy, Boggy and let the bullpen do their magic.

I think most all of us would agree that the playoffs aren’t happening this year. I saw something late last week which I think had them somewhere around a 4% chance of making the playoffs.
With that in mind is it appropriate to start tracking where their draft pick is going to land?
From my count right now they are at # 13. Not a ton of room for upward mobility.
Going to take a Herculean effort to get into top 10.

17. Eric Bitonti Shortstop/Third Base, Aquinas
Bitonti offers one of the most visually appealing swings in the entire prep class. High-level hit/power combo that’s well balanced throughout as a left handed hitter and a bat path that’s conducive to all-fields power. Ultra projectable, long frame that Bitonti incorporates extremely well into both his swing and throws across the diamond showing staying power on the left side of the infield. The Oregon commit shows an immense package of tools that could end up proving to have day 1 type potential. The cherry on top? Bitonti won't turn 18 years old until December following the draft. He's incrediibly young.

Pretty interesting, only prospectlive has Bitoni in their top 30 currently. BA, Fangraphs, and MLB pipeline have no mention of him

Given that Bitonti doesn't turn 17 until November, some outlets may just not have prioritized scouting him to this point.

I don’t think MLB pipeline has a complete list yet but Bitonti is a known commodity as he has played in every summer showcase/tournament so I’m pretty sure he’ll be in there somewhere once they do. www.baseballamerica.com/rankings/top-2023-mlb-draft-prospects/
