Welp I have been a Bloom defender and while I will stick it out to see what happens, it is painfully obvious he should have sold, and it was painfully obvious prior to the deadline. He is going to need to have one heck of an off season IMO or the natives will become very restless.

The Pink Elephant in the room... Is that this team hasn't been coached very well. Loosing multiple games by 10+ runs is an indictment of the manager's ability know when to pull/put in pitchers or to create a proper lineup that scores runs on a consistent basis. The counter to this is that there have been numerous injuries to the Sox - this is all true. I'd counter that a manager with good instincts would not put a Duran in CF on multiple occasions, he would not put a Darwinzon into high level innings, nor would he put players like Arroyo and Frenchy in positions that they are ill-fitting for. Cora won a championship in 2018, that's great. He had the unbelievable good luck of not having to use his 'instincts' regarding the lineup or pitching staff. When Cora needs to bring out the best in secondary players, he seems to put them in bad positions more often then not, unfortunately. I'm not suggesting to get rid of him, as he's seemingly great with personal relationships. However, his ability to game plan is seriously lacking in-game and could be offloaded for more analytical means. He had some wacky decision in 2018 too, they just worked out Fairly certain he pinch hit Nunez for Devers on that PH 3 run homer lol

If the Red Sox QO him, would he accept? I don't know if a team would lose a pick for him at this point. His stuff looks diminished. Time could get him healthy. He probably would decline the QO, but I think another team would risk losing the draft pick to sign him. Maybe, but I can see him waiting until a team doesn't lose a pick. Either way, a 4th rounder isn't much of a win.

BTW I saw a stat before the game that this team has suffered 8 walk off losses this year, as many as 2020 and 2021 combined. And I dont even think that goes to the root of the problem. Just one of many problems.

Either way, a 4th rounder isn't much of a win. Getting a fourth rounder would be more about having a bit more money and flexibility than about the pick itself. It's a piddley return compared to what I was hoping we could get for him earlier this season.

If he had been healthy he would have had to wait until after the draft completed. It used to be June before the draft got moved back.

They are now 5 games out with 4 teams to climb over. They're not helping themselves.

It would be a mistake to count this team out! I've played around with the tankathon site, too, but I don't think it makes much difference. CB has shown a tendency to pick guys who weren't in any media person's first-round mock, so it won't matter when he's picking at 13 or 18 or whatever. He did that with Yorke and Mikey Ramos. The only exception was MM, who was an obvious pick at R1-4.

Either way, the QO is negligible at this point.

That's not fair. He can't get a good enough jump on the caps to get out of the way. He also doesn't have the arm to throw them back at the fans. He should truly STFU about it. It's a bad look to get into a pissing match with a few yahoos from a BB outpost like KC.

Red Sox playoffs odds are down to 17%. Their previous low was 19%, on July 30. In between they peaked at 33% on... August 2nd. Right at the trade deadline.
Sigh.

Brutal series loss. Easily the team could have won 3 out of 4 with a couple more favorable breaks. I'd like to think the majority of Sox fans are grateful this team has won 4 world series championships in the last 20 years, almost got to the world series last year, and are currently stocking our farm system while still in contention for a wild card this year. Gosh, but the most vocal fans certainly have a lot of vitriol and impatience. The team can use our support in good times and bad. This year has been disappointing from the slow start to this summer rut. Brighter days are ahead, and I'd love to see this team get hot after returning home and having a day off and/or as reinforcements come back from injury. If not this year, the team will come back stronger soon. Let's go, Red Sox.

And no player should be subjected to objects thrown at them. Gonna give him a pass. Teaching moment.

Due to injuries the Sox have had several guys up who are clearly not MLB ready. So not ready they have close to zero trade value. I guess that is a minor plus in a way as most of them remain intriguing on some level.
