Those look to be pretty conservative projections to me. With another $70 mill to spend for 2023 that’ll be a good roster. My guess is they’re easily back in the playoffs with that. We made the playoffs 6/7 years early in Henry’s ownership. 03-09. We’ve missed the playoffs 8/13 years since. That’s unacceptable for a big market team. Only one year was close to making it too. 2011. We’ve been spotty a couple of World Series in that span. Chaim’s comments about missing out on a great deal instead of just adding good players is very concerning. Interesting. I didnt realized they missed 8 out if 13 since 2010, which is concerning as most of that times covers expanded playoffs. Also concerning is that each miss was followed by another miss. So they famously missed in 2011 but also missed badly in 2012. Last place finishes in 2014 and 2015 created 2 straight misses. After a lot of prosperity, they missed for 2 straight years, 2019 and 2020. Now they're primed to miss in 2022. If this pattern continues the Sox won't be playoff bound in 2023 either. However the silver lining is they haven't missed for 3 years in a row since 2000 - 2002, so they should re-emerge as a playoff team in 2024. I've never noticed that pattern until now. All part of Chaim's plan

Chaim’s comments about missing out on a great deal instead of just adding good players is very concerning. It is 12 years since unless you have completely given up on this year already. The Red Sox have won two World Series in that span - hardly unacceptable. The Mets have been to the playoffs twice in that span - closer to unacceptable. The Phillies have not been to the playoffs since 2011. And the Red Sox have won more World Series Championships in the 21st century than ANY other franchise. The #1 franchise in terms of championships. The MOST. All under Henry. After an unfathomably long drought. True there has also been some turbulence. Now it is time to build a more consistent winner, and Bloom is making moves to build for the next 4 World Series Championships. May they come in as short a duration as the last 4. That would be amazing.

First run at 2023 roster projection: C McGuire 1 WAR Wong .5 WAR 1B Casas 1 WAR Hosmer .5 WAR 2B Story 3.5 WAR 3B Devers 5 WAR SS Arroyo 1 WAR Downs .5 WAR LF Verdugo 2 WAR CF Nothing RF Refsnyder 1 WAR DH Valdez 1 WAR Dalbec .5 WAR SP Sale 2.5 WAR Paxton 2 WAR Pivetta 2 WAR Whitlock 2 WAR Crawford 1.5 WAR Bello 1.5 WAR Winckowski 1 WAR RP Houck 1 WAR Schreiber 1 WAR Brasier .5 WAR Position players: 17.5 WAR Pitchers: 15 WAR Replacement level: 47.5 wins === 80 wins Something in the ballpark of 70 million to spend before the luxury tax Looking alright to me I would like Bell for 1B turned DH. No QO and he is a well rounded hitter. Shouldn’t break the bank and you have a long term DH once Casas is ready. I would also like Haniger for LF. I want Verdugo in RF. I know that hurts a bit defensively but his bat plays much better in RF. Because the market is so thin, Kiké in CF will have to do IMO. Probably something close to his original contract with a one year opt out so he’s incentivized to bounce back. Contreras might be tempting at C, but I don’t want to buy high at his age after his best offensive season. I still want to trade for Murphy. The middle infield TBD. Not sure how they’ll approach the Bogaerts situation, or if they’ll be interested in Correa. Would much rather have Story and Arroyo+Valdez than buy-high Swanson. Can’t picture LA letting Turner go

I would love to talk with the genius, not the one who decided to convert long-time second baseman Jarred Duran to CF, but the one who, when faced with the obvious evidence in AA and AAA that he just was not a centerfielder, decided regardless of performance to keep him there instead of moving him back to second base. This is probably because he "has wheels," and internal evaluators keep thinking he'll grow into the position. Guess what, he's not. Put him back at second where he feels more comfortable and was at least adequate, and let him relax in the field and focus more on his plate discipline and driving the ball. It's a failed experiment, and it's hurting the team almost every game he plays now. Totally agree here. This is similar to what happened to Blake Swihart, imo. Moving a guy off a position he's most comfortable at - leading to disastrous outcomes. This philosophy (seen now in multiple regimes) where "X player can readily move to other spots on the field" does not take into consideration the human element. The Ceddanne Rafaela types (who can excel at multiple positions) are not the norm. Changing positions can definitely be tried in the minors, but doing it repeatedly in the MLB - even with injuries - does the players a disservice. And in the most cynical sense, it depreciates an asset. Agree as well on all points, and I would also submit the kid is a headcase. If you can't take ribbing from KC fans, and your reaction is to try and confront them.. Behavior like that only gives the a-holes more oxygen because they know they've needled you now. This is not a defense of general fan behavior, which seems to be deteriorating rapidly in general, too many people looking for their one shot in the spotlight with nary a thought if it is a negative or positive spotlight. Playing in the big markets though, you have to be smarter and more composed.

The potential comp I see for Duran is Jose Offerman. If he can improve his contact skills to slash the ball around and use his speed, he might become enough of an offensive player to overcome his horrendous D and nose his way into ML lineups for a few years.
It's not setting the bar real high, I know (though Offerman did give KC 5.3 WAR in his best year). But it's the best I can see him doing.
I never understood his rankings on the various sites, given the flaws in his game on both sides of the ball.

This is what he was for most of his career and honestly I wouldn't mind seeing him go back to it

We were at Kauffman during the series, they don't sell beverages with bottle caps... there were no bottle caps to throw, what is he talking about?
