Out of curiosity, I don't know if they win with Eovaldi, but he probably gives them a better chance than this.

Benintendi was trash when they moved him. What did you expect to get for him? Then hold onto him. Why the urgency to move when his value was in the toilet? I can live with the Red Sox not having Wink and Franchy in their organization. Grant Gambrell? Can you live without him? D-E-P-T-H baby!!!

Careful what you wish for. No kidding. After our RF debacle this off-season I could see Bloom let X walk and then fail to replace him. Well they do have Trevor Story. I wonder who plays 2nd next year

Blessed to spend my time with great fans who endlessly harp on every move that didn't work out, and have nothing to say about the ones that did.

the scariest thing about all of this for me is....where do we go from here ? Not intended to derail the Game thread, just a deep, existential thought. Revamp pitching staff, add a couple bats, get rid of dead wood, draft well?

Stripling apparently would be the Cy Young of AAA, because Franchy has been raking down there and has, er, not been today.

Out of the last 200 words Dave O'Brien has uttered, only 23 involved the game action.

Cora was talking about Arroyo at first, I guess that was this year though, I hope.

Revamp pitching staff, add a couple bats, get rid of dead wood, draft well? that is a good start, but the other teams in the division. I am honestly terrified that we won't be relevant for the next 3 years.

What is your rationale here? Ohtani is a FA after next season, right? When he first came to MLB, he showed a clear preference for staying on the West Coast. I’m not sure if that has changed, but one has to assume he’d much rather re-sign to be on the West Coast next year, as well. Also, you have to think Ohtani will command $40m+/year given his unique skillset. Have you seen any evidence that the Sox would give out a contract like that? I’m not sure if the prospect package you proposed gets a deal done anyway(probably not), but I don’t see why giving up all those years of their better prospects for a year of Ohtani makes a lot of sense. Trade only if he's willing to sign, but Boston should be in a position to offer 45 million per year. He deserves it. He's a ~12 DH and a 30+ million SP. He fills two holes and your giving up depth at two positions you're covering. Maybe a bit of an overpay though. DH isn't really a hole, though, and nor should SP be. It's just been rough at SP because of the injuries. Ohtani would be a ton of fun but we need a CF and a SS at a minimum, plus a Devers extension, and possibly a C, before adding at DH and SP. I don't think there's much money for that, especially if it means giving up controllable guys like Casas and Bello.

You know what bothers me about the Benny trade? Not trading AB, not even getting dog squeeze back. No. What bothers me is Winck and Franchy were guys multiple teams had given up on, and our FO seemed to think they knew better. They strike me as emblems of a we’re-smarter-than-the-league attitude. And I don’t believe it. Maybe a little, but not so much so that a guy like Franchy was just waiting for the Sox to do what no one else could.

That Benintendi trade, like most of Bloom's trades, was terrible. For a farm guy, he's pretty bad at it outside of drafting. I believe Benni was in the midst of a year and a half slump at the time and batting well below 200. That was your basic salary dump/ fire sale.

Renfroe, then subsequently traded for a prospect failing at AA. Verdugo is, alright? Wacha was good. Drafted Yorke. Trevor Story was a nice piece, I guess. I'm sure there's some other stuff.

How many games do we have left with the Pirates? Even then you are only looking at winning two of three. This team has a tendency not to show up at all a couple times a week.

Are there few things less exciting in a blow out game we need to win than watching Austin Davis do his thing? Since Eck is not on tonight I will do it - Yuck.

I can live with the Red Sox not having Wink and Franchy in their organization. 1) Go to the Bloom thread. I'm more sick of hearing about this trade than the Mookie one at this point. 2) Benintendi is mediocre and always has been. He would not have helped this team in 2021 and would not have made much of a difference this year either. The trade was fine.
