They're meant to be a lot less formal than other threads on the forum, so to moderate them the same way would be silly. However, we do ask posters to maintain a certain level of decorum in these threads, and we plan on moderating the Gameday threads a little more actively this season. In particular, we ask that posters refrain from being overly repetitive with their posts (if you've made your point, let it go), refrain from monopolizing the discussion (if you are making more than a couple posts in a row, you probably need to slow down a little bit), and of course, follow the Ground Rules ( link). The point is to make these threads worth participating in and fun for all posters, from our long-time fixtures to people just signing up today. -The Management

Win all of these and they're back in the Wild Card hunt.

So we get to see Wong and Bazardo. No German or Casas yet. Well, it's a start.

Win all of these and they're back in the Wild Card hunt. Well, even if they got 5 behind Toronto, it's really 6 because they don't have the tiebreaker and there's no play-in game. Edit: didn't realize it was a 4 game series. I guess 5 is something, but too little time left.

To realistically get back into it, the Sox would have to go on an epic win streak. Like…10 games, and they just haven’t show anything that makes me believe they have that in them this season

I know pot is now legal in MA, but there isn't enough purple sticky available for me to cosign on the Sox having any chance of making the playoffs this year. That ship has sailed, crashed into a melting iceberg, and will be featured in a movie 70 years from now.

Talk about disappointed look at the team were playing the next 4 games. They spent a bundle in the offseason. Nothing good and what do they do? They ask the owner to fork out more big money contracts? They took there run. Wait for the high upside pitching they drafted?

Seems the team will be without Eovaldi, Hosmer, and Houck for additional time. Chance to review more kids?

The good - only 1 LOB
The bad - already 5 Ks, and Raffi and JD remain lost, flailing at balls. Only in the second.

Hill looks over the hill so far. A hill of trouble? Heap of trouble? Anyone else enduring this?
Escaped with minimal damage

is anyone getting network error on mlb subscription. I’ve been getting that the last week. Literally uninstall and reinstall before every game (using the app). Their devs are pretty weak

At this rate I don't see Raffy signing an extension this offseason. This slump is tanking his numbers and I'm sure it'd hurt his leverage in negotiations. The longer this goes on, the more I'm expecting him to want to bet on himself to bounce back next year.

We may get a look at Bazardo tonight. Hill won't be in for much longer.

Looking at it on the Red Sox end, I'm not exactly chomping at the bit to pay him among the highest paid players in the game which I'm sure he'll want. He's a very good player, he's had one truly great season when he was 22 and we all thought wow the sky's the limit but perhaps he's just a very good player and not a great one.

To be fair, Raffy was raking...then he got injured and hasn't been the same since. Give him health and I'm sure we'll see monster numbers again. It would be frightening to think about what next year's lineup might look like without him in it. I think you can pencil in a healthy Devers up around .280 - .300 with 35 - 40 HRs.

No doubt the lineup would more than likely look ugly without him in it and don't get me wrong I hope they can get a long term deal signed I was just playing a little devils advocate. What remains to be seen with Rafi is if he's a 4-5 WAR or a 5-6+ WAR guy. He's put up a 6.7 fWAR season so he's definitely got the ability to be the latter. Yet since that season he's been a 4.5ish fWAR guy. If this seasons defense wasn't a mirage and as you point out if he stays healthy he will likely mash which would likely allow him to put up seasons around or maybe even better than that 6.7.

I'm sure Raffy feels the same way, but I'd also expect the Sox are less likely than ever to pay him like that guy. That's why I'm not feeling good about an extension getting done.

Bloom's own words today (or yesterday) they wanna keep both X and Raffy if they can find a deal that works for both sides. I would say that doesnt bode well for keeping them. I thought Raffy would be long term, not nearly as sure now.

Really liking Zack Kelly.
One page still in the 7th inning of a game thread. Tells the story of the season and where we are, sadly.
