Still $629,500 left to spend with a little under 5 months left. Okay, okay, I'll take it. I always enjoy when they sign a guy from a more unusual place - nothing wrong with signing folks from the DR, obviously, but it's good to know that they're scouting every diamond.

6’2 240 at 17 YO, that is literally me at 31 YO. I’m a large adult, he’s a massive child

This looks to be the largest IFA class we've ever signed. You never know what you'll get from that $10k-$250k range so I like seeing the quantity.

Report below says nothing about the Red Sox but does mention offers from 2 NL teams and 1 AL team. It's hard to know for sure but I think only ARI and COL might have more pool $ remaining than us? I wonder how enticing it would be to offer $600K plus the opportunity to rise the minor league ranks with Chan-Sol Lee, which I imagine would help soften the culture shock and barriers these guys would face.
Also, generally speaking, signing top Korean prospects just before the KBO draft would be a fairly new trend right? I'm sure exceptions exist, but this would seemingly be an important wrinkle in the international market moving forward if the KBO can't more provide more incentive for their amateur players to stay.

Yeah I can't remember that being a route guys have taken recently.

Where is Craig Shipley when you need him?

If I could make a guess, the Sox knew about him as well, but didn't match up with him, hence the other signing

Yeah I can't remember that being a route guys have taken recently. "Lee's signing adds him to the growing list of Korean players who have signed directly with an MLB organization straight out of high school. This group includes players like Ji-hwan Bae, Shin Soo Choo, Chan Ho Park, and Ji-man Choi. The uniqueness of this signing stems from a KBO rule that prevents any player who bypasses the draft to sign with an MLB organization from playing in the KBO until two years after they have been released by an MLB team." nesn.com/2023/07/red-sox-make-rare-international-high-school-prospect-signing/Those 4 names span about 20 years but I guess there would likely be others that have not materialized into anything worth mentioning.

Jun-Seok Shim with the Pirates and Win Bo Cho w the Cards are recent Koreans that signed straight out of HS as well. There has been an increase in players from Chinese Taipei, Taiwan, and South Korea signing as 18 year olds in the last few international cycles, it does seem like some of the higher end prospects are signing earlier.

Jang apparently announced he's skipping the KBO draft and he'll sign with an MLB team next signing period. Makes sense - more money.

Dodgers were tapped out but traded two ACL pitchers that Fangraphs gave a 40 and 35+ grade to in the preseason to the White Sox for bonus pool money. Chicago had 1.4 million left in June. Looks like they paid a real price for this guy.

Looks like they paid a real price for this guy. A couple of Korean sportswriters reported that he is very close to signing with the Dodgers for more than $1M. Some KBO scouts think he is the best pitching prospect ever in KBO history. If he had stayed in S.Korea for the KBO draft, he would've gotten a signing bouns over $800K, which is record breaking.

Third most behind Arizona and Pittsburgh. The Pirates just made a trade to get money that puts them right at $1 million, I'll bet they have a guy ready to sign.
