SP needs to extend their 40 man roster table by a few more columns now....

I'm happy to see Devers extended. They absolutely needed to do this.
Finally, some fantastic news. Nice to see Bloom operate with urgency. He and ownership knew they'd be tarred and feathered in Devers was allowed to leave.
I'm still annoyed as hell about Bogaerts being gone but if I can be critical of Bloom and ownership blowing the extension offer to X, then I can be complementary to Bloom and ownership for stepping up and doing what they needed to do.
So bravo to Bloom. Job well done! Now there is a long term corner piece to build around.
I'm not as down on Devers defensively as others are. I think he can play another 5 - 7 years at 3b. I think he has the defensive skills to stay at 3b. And I think the needless errors will lessen over time.
And when he does become a DH, he still should be able to impact them, the way Ortiz did. I do believe Raffy will be a 500 HR guy if he stays healthy.
It's not hard to imagine a 2026 infield that could be among the best in baseball with Devers and Casas at the corners and Mayer and Romero up the middle.
Well done Bloom!!!!

I know one person who’s not happy with this news: Gerrit Cole 😂

Something tells me Henry got the message at the Bruins game the other day.

This is a great, great deal. Kudos to the FO for holding firm on 11 years for a 26 year old. I can't believe they got this done. Exactly the guy you give this deal to.

Another big winner from this: Manny Machado, who just took sole possession of second place in next season's Ohtani sweepstakes with no one else really in close sight.

Big dollars for a 'face of the franchise' guy - glad he'll be hanging around. I didn't think Boston would sign both Devers AND X. Of the two, I think this makes more sense.

Finally acted like a big market team. I don't give credit to Bloom. I think Henry stepped in to get it done. I think he got the message the other day. He told Bloom make the offer and Bloom passed it on.
As far as trades that might happen, that will be up to Bloom. Just keep Casas. The rest are tradable.

Upside of this would be: They're only committed through his age 36 season which seems like a boon compared to the rest of FA right now. Downside: Lose $12M from this year's budget to save only $1M per year over the deal.

BTW anybody think in a big picture sense this was partly done to raise their profile in the Dominican as a franchise that is still a major player in that market, and will take care of player's that perform?

I think the optics definitely mattered for the Red Sox in these negotiations, but I don't think it was specifically targeting the D.R. or anything, just that they're still willing to shell out big money to retain their guys.

EDIT: Unless it's 1/17.5 and then 10/313.5? I would be very surprised if it's not like this. It don't matter to Devers which way they do it, so it's up to them.

So that's a 31.8 million dollar AAV, I'm not mistaken the next 11 years.

According to the ESPN article this is indeed superseding the arb-agreed number, so it's 11/331 starting in 2023. Kind of odd timing that they would even bother with the arbitration agreement yesterday, but maybe things came together fast after that.

Well now we know that all sox fans have to do to get someone signed long term is to go heckle John Henry into submission.
Anyone want to go heckle Henry into signing Correa with me?

If his 23 AAV gets bumped up to 30, then we're like 3-4 million under the luxury tax right now

I think his arbitration deal got thrown out and torn up once this deal was signed.
I'm pretty sure this is what happened and it doesn't exist anymore. The 331 is what's owed and that's it.
