For those on T-Mobile, reminder that you get free mlb.tv. They just sent the reminder about it today. Thank goodness. My wife was thinking about changing plans, but I always have the absolute worst luck with phone transitions. This deal will probably be enough to just stick with T-Mobile. Looks like it can be claimed for a one-week period starting 3/28. Damn. Didn't know that. Can I get reimbursed after I was automatically charged? I have to call them about getting my Apple TV covered too. T-Mobile pays Apple TV, Netflix, MLB subscription, and we switched because we travel so much internationally and they were 100x better than Verizon overseas.

Is it me or does Brannon look real put together for an 18 year old? He's been in the weight room, though I know home plate collisions are mostly a thing of the past I wouldn't want to collide with him at the plate.

Will add to the photo forum soon, but I hadn't realized what a big guy Brannon is. Only saw him on the dugout rail last year.

Not sure where else to put this, but LOVED this snippet from Fangraphs' 3B power rankings on Devers: blogs.fangraphs.com/2023-positional-power-rankings-third-base/"Devers is 26 years old, and ZiPS projects him to hit at least 30 home runs for the next four years and run a wRC+ above 100 for the next 11. No, that’s not a typo. The median projection has him as an above-average hitter for another 11 years."

Devers does seem like he could be like Ortiz. Get out of his rocking chair and crank a home run.

When will teams start using the IL? If Whitlock and Bello are going to just need a short time on it wouldn`t they want to get the 15 day clock started?

No, actually, I don't think you can. That's why nobody is on the IL yet.

No, actually, I don't think you can. That's why nobody is on the IL yet. Once the season starts you can't backdate the beginning of the IL stint to say March 24th or whatever anymore?

It's 3 days prior to opening day. Sorry.
You can backdate any IL stint 3 days during the year, that applies to opening day as well.

During the season, you can only backdate if the player hasn't played in those 3 days. Does the same hold true at the beginning and include spring training games ?

I was wondering that. I'd presume that's the case.

Can players not play if they are on the IL? I thought maybe because the games don`t count, it would be like rehabbing. So Bello and Whitlock are not on the IL so they can keep pitching?

Well, again, there is no benefit to putting someone on the regular IL right now. There's no active 26-man roster to deactivate someone from and there's no back-dating benefit.
Guys are on the 60-day IL because that frees up a 40-man spot, like the Red Sox did with Story so they could sign Chang. He's still going to have to sit until 57 days after opening day - the point was the roster spot.
