Per Will Flemming, coaches in Worcester raved about Fitzy's leadership in the WooSox clubhouse last year, which is pretty notable IMO.

Never could've seen that one coming...
They better clean that up before the regular season.
The clock should be a timer inside the ump's pocket (maybe the crew chief's pocket, rather than necessarily the home plate ump's) that vibrates when there's a violation so that only the ump is aware and he has the discretion to call or not call violations based on the situation. That way you could avoid the inevitable messes like that one.

They’re just getting used to it right now, I’m overall pretty happy with the pitch clock. Will give us 81 extra hrs of life over the course of a season

They’re just getting used to it right now, I’m overall pretty happy with the pitch clock. Will give us 81 extra hrs of life over the course of a season That's part of what I don't like: that's 81 hours of not watching/listening to baseball games.
I like Red Sox games and when one starts, I'm not in a huge hurry for it to end. I think it doesn't bother me because I listen to most games on the radio, which means I can do other things (e.g. cook, read, exercise) while I follow the game and I don't have to keep my attention fixed to the TV.
If a particular pitcher is slow, I don't really notice because I'm also doing something else and Joe Castig is telling a story or bantering with his partner, so it doesn't really matter if there's 15 or 30 seconds between pitches. I guess it might be more annoying on TV, where you have to pay attention to a slow pitcher, who is usually a bad, AAAA pitcher who is hard to watch as it is.
When I'm at a game, I'm not in a hurry to leave either. If a pitcher is slow, that's usually a good time to go get another beer, knowing that you won't miss much. Sox-MFYs games from the heyday of the modern rivalry were famous for going long. How many fans do you think left a tight game early because it was taking too long?
So the game is changing now in order to make it more TV-friendly. What a great way to dictate how the game is played.
And yes, you may get off my lawn now.

Can you imagine the amount of “the game is fixed!!” discussion if the umpire explicitly got to decide whether the situation warranted a play clock violation?

First, I'm a huge fan of the pitch clock. I have been ever since Nomar the human rain delay Garciapara and Raffy trying to look pensive between every pitch wasn't helping. That's not baseball, it's garbage. Details not shown in the video, when the timer hit the batter mark, the batter was looking down. The reason he was looking down is that Marrero was still standing up. There's nothing in the rules about the catcher being ready. A Snitker comment after the game (paraphrasing) 'I don't know if the catcher standing was an intentional decoy or not but, we might try that." It's a big plus that we got this out early, batters leaguewide be warned. theathletic.com/4251886/2023/02/25/red-sox-braves-pitch-clock/?source=fbhq&fbclid=IwAR1JyTD-eyKvgTOAfsf9YbReNfw36s6K6gUEA1lY10HPS5B4RkQDTjHX9CA

Any such discretion would violate everything the umpiring community stakes its reputation on. Impartiality is out the window if calls become arbitrary, but that's what this would explicitly be. It's a recipe for a shooting war.

I think the first part of your comment is exactly what MLB is worried about: You aren’t paying attention to the game because you are cooking/exercising etc…. I honestly don’t think I sit and watch a full game from the first pitch to the last pitch all season. I used to do this all the time. Part of it is because life got busier, for sure, but the games also got longer(and sleepier). Who has 4 hours to sit and watch a game every night? And don’t even get me started with what the DVR has done to my attention span. If baseball wants to keep up with the boom in other sports like the NBA and MMA etc… they need to deliver some action. MLB has been hemorrhaging viewers for years. Will this fix the issue? Probably not, but I think it’s a step in the right direction.

Game 7 World Series. Umpires have discretion because of the moment? Manager comes out screaming! "He took too long!" Umpires cannot have discretion. It's got to be black or white. Otherwise the arguments will be endless. Maybe the MLB should have a rule that you can't argue time, like ball and strikes. Weird things are going to happen that you've never seen before. I guess it will make the game more interesting. This will be the first time people pay attention to the clock, like in football. I think the pitchers will have an easier time pacing themselves than the hitters. Either way, watching the game will be a little different.

A couple times now I've seen flyballs by Yoshida where the ball went about 60 feet father than I was expecting off the bat
