Concur with the above.
There's a chasm from 1 to 2, a gap from 2 to 3. Then it gets a lot closer. Anthony would probably need to completely flip a switch for us to think about him at 2 this year.

We try to fiddle with the grades as little as possible -- it doesn't really make sense to keep juggling a player's ceiling or floor from month to month, so we like to feel definitive when we do so. Anthony's ceiling was a topic of conversation this month, and while we all agreed to stand pat for now I think we were pretty unanimous that we wouldn't hesitate moving it up, especially as we get better looks. I see very little chance of him moving ahead of Bleis unless he just totally blows up at Greenville to the point where he's something like a top-40 prospect in the game. All four of us are very high on Bleis. Does that mean that interest rates will not go up again until September? Oh, wait a minute; I thought i was still reading about yesterday's Fed meeting.

Streaks to how shallow the system is after 4. After Marcelo you have a tools kid in low A, and two good AA kids but outside of the top 100. Then you enter that area where you balance a couple of low A dreams with older really low ceiling guys like Valdez. If any of the low A chips were strong they would easily displace the older flotsam. If they draft a college kid in first round I could see him fit right into that 5-10 group. It’s crying out for a real prospect who is older than 19-20. I had that same thought. FG has Valdez at -.1 WAR. He's underwater on offense and defense. My first reaction when I saw his ranking was surprise that that kind of performance by a kid without a position earned him a three-spot jump in the rankings. Conversely, I was surprised to see that Mata's ghastly BB rate and another injury hasn't knocked him down more. This is not a knock on the rankings. I think these two moves show why the system is rated middle of the pack, if you combine all the lists and average them out. But I do remain surprised that Blaze doesn't move much no matter how much he hits. One of the things that makes this the best sports discussion forum on the internet is that, even when I totally disagree with someone, they’re usually articulate enough to make me think about what I actually disagree with, which helps me understand the game better. This is a perfect example—it’s pretty hard to argue that Valdez has come around to “bad” territory after his hot start (and being thrust into an unexpected everyday role), but he also showed enough that you can see a major league player there. A strong-side platoon bat who can get by at second and maybe learn an outfield corner, who looks like he can put up a solid batting line against righties, doesn’t sound like the most exciting prospect in the world. But that’s a profile that I could see putting up 5ish WAR in his years of team control. That’s really valuable, and a moderately successful outcome for the guys you dream on in A-ball. A big part of the Rays secret sauce is having a pretty endless stream of guys like Valdez—they have their warts, but they’re put in situations to succeed and can produce when needed. The churn at the bottom of the roster isn’t the most exciting thing to talk about, but that’s where the value is. Getting to play Enmanuel Valdez and Jarren Duran instead of, say, our 2017 depth of Deven Marrero and Chris Young adds up to more wins over the course of the season, and that’s before you take into account how much you save not having to pay for veteran depth.

Just curious on the ranking for Meidroth? Performance/level/age = top 10 for sure to me. IMO he compares to Yorke. A little less pop but a little better glove. Speed about the same. Seems to me like he is a very good bet to play MLB and to hit consistently. With average glove at least at 2B. So just curious why #21? Is my assessment way off? Thanks.

A lot of new faces..who fell out? Gilberto Jimenez was the notable one. Tyler Uberstine fell off due to the word that he would likely need TJ (which he did get, a couple days ago). The rest were mostly guys on that back-end of the previous month's top 60 who have pretty much stayed borderline but got passed by the new entries (who have mostly been playing well): Corey Rosier, Lyonell James, Johnfrank Salazar, Ahbram Liendo, Nathan Landry. Liendo and James were probably the only the two in that group who we were consciously ranking lower (both have really struggled to make quality contact), the rest could probably shuffle back on just as easily as they dropped off.

Will you guys do a July 1st-ish ranking and then update again when draft signings are done in August?

I was wondering if any of the voters (Mike Chris Ian James) thought Bonaci was approaching Yorke's status.

Wikelman has to jump Mata, correct? At this point, Mata seems like a guaranteed RP.

I'm looking forward to the update this week.
I'll say Roman Anthony moves up past Shane Drohan, and Mata moves down below Walter.

It's too bad on Mata being hurt this year and not doing well when he's been on the mound, he was a guy I for sure thought would be a factor in the bullpen this year but being out of options next year I'm not sure he's even in the org next season. Hopefully he comes out like a house of fire in the 2nd half and gets a shot at the ML level to see if he's guy they can carry in the bullpen. Maybe they carry him in that Kaleb Ort Justin Garza role and hope he can put it together? I gotta believe he can be better than Ort.

Glad to see Meidroth make the leap. That also feels about right for Monegro, who was one of the more interesting cases in this month’s batch of updates.

12 players currently on the roster graduated in the last 26 months. Only player from before that is Devers And that 12 doesn't include the yet-to-graduate Walter, Murphy, Jacques, and Hamilton.
It makes pretty vivid the big gap in the system that was seeded in the early-mid '10s and exacerbated by trades in the 2016-18 stretch. Between Devers and Dalbec did they graduate anyone at all, other than a few marginal relievers like Brasier and Darwinzon? Chavis I guess...

Houck was alongside Dalbec and is a pretty solid success at this point Dalbec was 5/21, Whitlock was 6/21, Houck was 9/21. So that's why I said "between Devers and Dalbec" - that's when the spigot turned on.

Brian Johnson graduated in early 2018 - probably at the same time as Devers, possibly the month after. Important contributor on the 2018 team, obviously struggled after that. Other than that the grads were all guys who signed as MLFA in the high minors and ended up coming up. Like I remember discussing end-of-season awards after 2020, and we ended up not doing an award for Graduate of the Year because the closest thing to a candidate was Phillips Valdez (who obviously didn't come through the system).

Devers graduated in October 2017 actually. BJ in June 2018.
Chavis graduated June 2019. Darwinzon Sept. 2019.
