Noticed this in yesterday's game also.

One of the secrets to Wink's success so far this year: throw more cutters and sliders, throw fewer fastballs. Per Statcast: -2022: 51.3% four-seamers and sinkers, 38.9% cutters and sliders -2023: 39.6% four-seamers and sinkers, 58.4% cutters and sliders there's also this, courtesy of redsoxstats It's interesting, because even though he's getting a velo bump out of the bullpen and more extension, he's still throwing the fastball less often. I've always thought one of the simplest things you could do to improve your pitcher development is to have them throw their best pitches more often and their worst pitches less often. Wink has always had solid velo but his FB has never been as effective as you'd have thought (reputed to be due to lack of movement and fringy command), so why not lean on the cutter/slider instead.

I know it's the Rays, but it's really not a good look to lose 1-0 when your best hitter (so far this short season) goes down.

just one of those at bats that the hitter persevered. i had a sinking feeling watching it. Don't blame Martin, he had to throw one in the zone.

Turner looks like a perfect replacement for JDM. Not missing a beat.

Martin's always been a bit homer prone. Can't get too upset about that one.

I haven't been very impressed with martin being a set-up man from what I have seen.

At least the agony doesn't take as long this year.
Could be it is the bats (or lack thereof) that hurt the team the most this year.

I know no one cares about moral victories, but that’s the best game anyone has played against the Rays this year. Other than one mistake pitch, the Sox pitchers played that game just about as well as you can.

I only had us winning this series 3-1 instead of getting the sweep, so we're still on track.

Outstanding pitching performance, but offense scored 0 runs when their top bat went down.

Old friend Jalen Beeks looked like an ace.

This offense was carried by Adam Duvall prior to his injury. Other guys will need to start picking up the slack or this season could turn south in a hurry.

Once again, Kiké at lead off is not the answer.

1-3 in one-run games so far. My "their injury and clutch luck is liable to revert to the mean this season" prediction is off to a rough start.
Imagine if the Orioles hadn't dropped that pop-up in game 2...

Glass half full, well pitched game except for one giant mistake late. Glass half empty, didn't think Duvall was going to be the lynch pin in this lineup, but it was clear without him they suffered.
Kiké is atrocious right now on both sides of the ball, and that is concerning, I didn't expect him to hit, but I expected much better defense from him. Casas has looked out of sorts all year and I hope it's the second coming of Pedey, but we still haven't had a prospect come up in the past few years worth a diddly in the box. Both him and Yoshi seem to be pulling off the ball, look at where their butts are when they swing, which is a recipe for rolling over and pulling a ball 19 feet into the ground.
Raffey and Verdugo are the only guys who have been as advertised. Arroyo is going to pull an oblique in t-3-2-1...
Twas a good game marred by bad situational hitting. Wonder how long a leash Wong gets before they give Alfaro a shot, considering all the lefties teams are throwing at them? I legit thought Tampa had like 90 lefties available today, and honestly it didn't matter, the guys who supposedly mash lefties brought pool noodles instead of bats today.

The offense is really worrying. Not sure it's going to be a strength this year.

Once again, Kiké at lead off is not the answer. Cora can be very frustrating as a manager. I think he over values and loves the super utility guys way too much as a reflection of his playing career. Kiké and his 0.097 BA shouldn't be leading off.

This team is too vulnerable to left handed pitching, especially with Duvall gone

Just wondering how the Tampa payroll compares to SD and the Red Sox?
