They're meant to be a lot less formal than other threads on the forum, so to moderate them the same way would be silly. However, we do ask posters to maintain a certain level of decorum in these threads, and we plan on moderating the Gameday threads a little more actively this season. In particular, we ask that posters refrain from being overly repetitive with their posts (if you've made your point, let it go), refrain from monopolizing the discussion (if you are making more than a couple posts in a row, you probably need to slow down a little bit), and of course, follow the Ground Rules ( link). The point is to make these threads worth participating in and fun for all posters, from our long-time fixtures to people just signing up today. -The Management

A split series here would be great. The Rays have to lose at some point, right?

Start to a 7 week gauntlet in the schedule. Sox play the Rays, Angels, Twins, Brewers, Orioles, Guardians, Blue Jays, Phillies, Braves, Cardinals, Mariners and Padres from now until the end of May. All of them legitimate playoff contenders.
I know it’s early in the season, but if this team doesn’t come out over .500 in this run, it’s going to be very difficult to see them sneaking into a wild card spot by September.

Rays have outscored their opponents by a fairly respectable 75-18 margin.
We've got em right where we want em: massively overdue for a regression to the mean.

Or, look at it from the Rays' perspective: Their season has gotten off to a scintillating start, and just before the next series starts, with all my LH starters, one of the opponent's few RHH threats, who has gotten off to a scintillating start of his own, goes down with an injury. To the Rays, this must feel like the start of a potential season where all the stars align - think Seattle Mariners. All extraordinary seasons start, and feed on themselves, somehow. Just ask the Boston Bruins.

I hate these guys. Also, four-game regular season series should be banned.

I hate these guys. Also, four-game regular season series should be banned. Why? Seems like a random thing to have a strong opinion on. As someone who used to plan travel for teams I’m very pro travel efficiency. For the record, I’m only asking why to the latter

Prediction for this series: Arroyo gets hot. He was hitting the ball really hard yesterday, steady diet of lefties should help.

I’m going these games. Probably all of them. I have a good feeling, but agree 2-2 would probably be victory. Have to get game 1. Knock them off horse early.

I'm a fan of either a 3 game or a 5 game series. A 2-2 split just leaves everyone unsatisfied.

For the record, I’m only asking why to the latter I’m also anti-four game series for a few reasons: 1) You can split, which denies the satisfaction of winning the series (and winning 3 of 4 is really hard) 2) Fans quickly get tired of seeing the same opponent 3) Anecdotally, it feels like more bad feelings between the two teams are created during these series, leading to dust-ups, etc. (and no, I can’t prove that with hard data)

They might be a really good team - I was originally thinking they'd be the best team in the AL before I sort of lost the courage of my convictions and now I think I might have been right in the first place. But, say, a split of this series would leave them at 11-2, which is still plenty good, and a lot closer to any reasonable expectation for how even an excellent team ought to do over a 13-game stretch.

If the Sox win one game it will be a moral victory

This is a Boston Red Sox advocacy site. Let's curtail the Rays fornication, shall we ?
Whip these mofo's like the small market wannabe club they are.

For what it's worth, they've played Detroit, Washington, and Oakland who are 7-12 combined in their other games.

I'm hoping Connor Wong gets hot. Can really use his RH Bat off lefties

Duvall officially placed on IL but still no announcement on the severity. Dalbec is the corresponding move. Why can't we have nice things??

Alex Cora and Kiké Hernandez inexplicably batting leadoff - name a more iconic duo. I get why Hernandez is at SS today given that Refsnyder is substantially better against LHP than Chang, but unless Duvall's injury isn't severe Kiké needs to move back to CF after this lefty-heavy stretch.

I really hope they don’t do what they did with Story last year and are willing move Kiké off of his new position. He’s a horrible SS and we have no true CF healthy right now.
