This looks like a short term move with our bullpen being taxed. I'm fine with it. But is Bernardino really our next best option in the pen? He's just a lottery ticket and can't be counted on Honestly, there really isn’t anyone else in Worcester lighting the world on fire right now as far as pitching. He’s the best bet for now and as others have noted, this is probably just a short term move until Joely is ready or they’re ready to spike Kluber on the IL.

Verdugo RF Devers 3B Turner DH Yoshida LF Hernández 2B Casas 1B Duran CF Wong C Chang SS I'm at the point where I think they should flip Casas and Duran. Casas may hit, but he's been walking at a good clip and clogs the bases, whereas Duran on base makes pitchers and catchers nervous and could actually help Casas. That or, if Duran is still hot in two weeks, bat him leadoff, Verdugo in the 2 and the rest keep their places in the conga line. Let Duran wreak havoc on the bases and get the pitchers off to bad starts. It can only benefit everyone else. This is backwards. Casas cannot be the last bat with power in the lineup, else his walks go wasted too often.
Put another way, given a guy who gets on base by walking and a guy who gets on base by hitting doubles, who hits first?
Meanwhile, "clogging the bases" is almost not a thing.
Is Duran really more likely to be a power bat than Wong or Chang, though?
Also, Casas still only has a .276 OBP. I'm not saying that won't rise, but I also wouldn't sweat it for now if a power threat isn't waiting in the wings to cash him in.

AL East is playing .645 ball and the Central is playing .398. West is at .468.
NL is .522, .546, .439.
So far, NL Central is hugely improved since last year, AL Central even worse.
They really need to go to a conference - division structure when they expand to 32 teams. The 4-team divisions are just for a slight tweak in schedule. Playoff schedule is based on two 8-team conferences in each league.

My rudimentary understanding is that current records, not preseason projections, steer strength of schedule. It’s a valid counter; obviously, if Pittsburgh is still .500+ come Memorial Day, you no longer have the asterisk next to that series. Even so, the takeaway here is that the Sox have had three games against a very weak Detroit team and played comfortably competent or better teams in every other series so far.

I think about 3/4ths of their remaining schedule is against teams on the MIN/LAA tier or better.
For comparison, the worst team the Yankees have played so far is probably the Giants, and after that it's the CLE/MIN/LAA tier; it's arguably a tougher schedule than the Red Sox have faces. The Blue Jays have played KC and DET, and also STL who kind of stink so far - a slightly easier schedule, but not by that much (especially if you don't give the Red Sox too much credit for facing a "tough" Pittsburgh opponent). Both the Rays and Orioles have had total creampuff schedules though.

Disagree that the Yankees schedule has even be arguably tougher. They've played no one playing as well as the Rays, Pirates or Brewers, and they've played two below .500 teams to the Sox' one. The SOS is .583 vs. .506, which is like playing a 94 win team vs. an 82 win team.

dangerous team. lots of bias against them because of their recent history. Sale has to be on point.

FYI for MLB.TV subscribers, the O's commentators said their GM is going to join them on the broadcast next inning - could be an interesting listen

Dod Duran lose a little weight? He’s massive but maybe slightly less massive than last year.
