They're meant to be a lot less formal than other threads on the forum, so to moderate them the same way would be silly. However, we do ask posters to maintain a certain level of decorum in these threads, and we plan on moderating the Gameday threads a little more actively this season. In particular, we ask that posters refrain from being overly repetitive with their posts (if you've made your point, let it go), refrain from monopolizing the discussion (if you are making more than a couple posts in a row, you probably need to slow down a little bit), and of course, follow the Ground Rules ( link). The point is to make these threads worth participating in and fun for all posters, from our long-time fixtures to people just signing up today. -The Management

Interesting that Wednesday's Sox starter remains T.B.D. Perhaps there is concern about Paxton going on 4 days rest just yet. Crawford could start that game, I guess, but he is the perfect fit to take over from Houk tonight after Tanner efficiently gets through the order twice.

So when Duvall went down, how many of us expected him to still have produced more fWAR than Devers? While the power has mostly been there the all around offensive impact has not been to his standard. If he gets locked in all around that would be significant.
Couple little stat line battles I'm watching: -Casas' quest to get above the mendoza line (currently hitting .180) -Devers' battle to get above .300 OBP (.296 currently)

I think about two-thirds of Devers' weak slash line is due to BABIP (.256) and one-third is an approach issue.
His xwOBA, .374, is the second highest of his career. His hard hit and barrel rates are as high as they've ever been.
But he has added some fly balls at the expense of line drives (the former is up about 6% and the latter is down 3%). He's also pulling the ball more (up from ~35% to ~45%).
And he has the lowest walk rate of his career. He's actually swinging slightly less outside the zone and slightly more inside the zone, and the K rate is holding steady. So I don't know why he's not drawing walks. But it's tough to have an elite batting line when you only walk 5% of the time.
I dunno, does this add up to a picture of a guy who's going up there to hit home runs in every at bat? More swinging in the zone->fewer walks; more fly balls->lower BABIP. It's not necessarily all bad, if that's the case - he does have the highest ISO of his career. But I keep wanting him to get to the next level by adding more OBP to his game and instead he's going in the opposite direction.

Duvall had a historic start.

The Red Sox are 26-21 without the benefit of playing the three worst teams in the AL and the NL: Oakland, Kansas City, Chicago White Sox, Cincinnati, Colorado, and Washington. They play 4 of these teams between now and the all star break.
MFY are 6-0 Tampa is 14-2 Baltimore is 9-3 Toranto is 6-1
Wow, a combined 35-6
Wow, I knew the other ALE teams had played weaker schedules, but this is even more telling than I would have thought, especially in the case of Tampa.

I'd hope there would be a reason for Bleier's uninspiring pitching.

I'd hope there would be a reason for Bleier's uninspiring pitching. Getting traded for by Boston seems to have that effect on most relievers

But what's their record against us? The Sox aren't one of the 6 weakest teams in MLB.

Was that ground ball past Casas hit that hard or does he just have the range of a bronze statue? On replay, I thought he could have had it.

Way to hang tough in that spot Tanner. Big time strikeout. Keeps them in it

But what's their record against us? The Sox aren't one of the 6 weakest teams in MLB. 4 games is not a great sample, especially when the Sox had so many key players injured. Tampa's only 7-7 against the rest of the AL East.
