Going by the radar, looks like they may need to play a tripleheader tomorrow.

Great just commuted all the way here probably for nothing. If only meteorologists were as good at their jobs as Chris Sale is at finding the DL

Te common thread in Tampa outperforming expectations year after year is Kevin Cash.

Game PPD....will be played Monday at 4:05pm It never made sense to me that TBD (whoever he is) could start for both teams tomorrow. So now we get a Paxton / McClanahan matchup on Monday instead.
(I guess who starts game 1 and 2 is still up in the air, for both teams.)
Changes that follow. I'm assuming that Crawford will take Sale's rotation spot. Pivetta has been great in his multi role and they really don't need three excellent such guys. (It wouldn't, however, shock me if Pivetta went back to the rotation ... and excelled.)
Guardians:
Paxton > Craword or Kluber Whitlock > ditto Crawfod > Whitlock or Houck
Yankees
Houck > Houck or Whitlock
Bello Paxton

And hell, in the rare moments they get voted out (96% of incumbents are reelected at the federal level), they just go on to work for the same lobbying firms that greased their palms generously and make 4 times the salary. All for being even more wrong. It’s how D.C manages the amazing feat of never having to endure a regional recession while continually expanding a massively lucrative sector that creates absolutely nothing. It’a a level of self-perpetuating grift that would make PT Barnum alternately applaud with unbridled enthusiasm and curse with fire-breathing unparalleled jealousy. The big difference: Weather people often add value to our days and rarely cost us real money, whereas politician rarely add any value to anything and cost us absurd amounts of money to achieve such feats of vacuity and decay dressed up as “social programs and innovations.

I`d rather see Pivetta in the rotation than Kluber. Crawford is in a good spot for him right now. Maybe after the AS break he could move into the rotation if needed. I`m all for Crawford over Kluber though.

This double header thing is an illusion. It’s a day-nighter. A real double header gets you 2 games for the price of one. Like they used to do. Wouldn’t want to give up all that money.

Houck > Houck or Whitlock
Bello Paxton
Well, it looks like both Paxton and McLanahan were too far into their between-start regimens to go a day earlier than planned. So the Sox are sticking with the rotation, pushing everyone back one day except the TBD for game 2 today. That means that Houck goes on 6 days rest after only throwing 4 innings in his last outing. Bello (game 4) and Paxton (Guardians 1) go on 5 days rest rather than 4. A different TBD and Whitlock round out the Guardians series and the Yankees series is as originally planned.
Downsides: TBD #1 starts against the Rays, and Paxton against the Guards instead of vice versa; Houck getting 6 then 4 days rest instead of 5 and 5; loses the option of swapping Hock and Whitlock against the Guards and Yanks.
Paxton had 2 great starts on 6 days rest sandwiched around a bad one on 4 days, and now he's getting 5 days rest against Cle and 4 against NY, when it looked like it might be the other way around.
Upside: Bello has pitched on 4 days rest just once, and this gives him another 5 days start before he goes on 4 against the MFY's.

Did that buy out a free agent year with the club option?
I was just thinking that we don't talk enough about how he's basically played at an all-star level ever since he got here. .299/.393/.457 and 1.9 WAR in 275 PAs.

The club option is for his last arb year. It doesn't really look to me like the Sox are better off with this deal so I think they just did him a solid. Awesome for Rob that he got three major league salaries in the bank after coming in to play OF for the WooSox in his 30s.

A RHH OF who crushes LHP and has the versatility to play all three spots is an underrated asset, IMO. This is especially true for the Red Sox. Yoshi is going to be in LF for the foreseeable future and Duran may be establishing himself as the CF for the next few years.
They may also have Dugo in RF next year, though I wouldn't be surprised if they ship him out this coming off-season. Either way, there will be plenty of opportunities to get RobRef into games and gain a platoon advantage.
Bloom deserves credit for the low-cost RobRef acquisition. He's performed at a rate of 3 B-Ref WAR per 600 PA since he's been here.

Unless the deal that sent him away, or another transaction, brought back a high OBP replacement that can handle RF at fenway, Verdugo is an important piece of this lineup. Any replacement from within (thinking Bleis) is at least 2-4 years away. Refsnyder is starting game 1 in CF against a RH starter. He really is underrated if he is thought of as a platoon only player.
