I praised the acquisition and contract extension Bloom pulled off with RobRef. But thinking that KKH could become an everyday SS was extremely poor judgment and seemed so to some of us at the time. Hernandez as an everyday SS was clearly not Bloom's plan. Plan A (Bogaerts) got away, and Plans B-E (Story, Mondesi, Chang, Arroyo) are all injured.
Edit: And Bloom acquired Reyes. Cora is the one putting Reyes at 2B for no reason when he's solid at SS.
Well, we've covered the Bogaerts matter a lot and I've thought (along with the majority of posters, I think) that they blew that one badly. That's certainly on the FO. Mondesi's availability was always a question and I don't think anyone sees Yu Chang or Arroyo as an everyday SS either. That leaves Story. Someone made a great post months ago showing the difference each MPH in a SS's throwing velocity makes in terms of runners beating out ground balls for hits. The post, as I recall, made the point that Story at SS would mean a surprising (at least to me) increase in the number of baserunners over a full season. That trickles down to more pitches thrown, shorter starts by SP, more stress on the BP, etc. etc. I came away from it convinced that Story wasn't an option either. Edit: But I fully agree that Cora needs to stop playing KKH at SS.

Gonna be a while before any of Chang, Mondesi and Story return unfortunately What is up with Mondesi? I remember hearing there was a small chance he would be ready by opening day. Now its June and i have heard nothing about when he will be ready. I heard the same and I've been wondering the same. No idea.

Juan Soto only qualified batter with a higher OBP than Refsnyder

Mondesi probably strained a hamstring or something. He's the most injury prone player in baseball. They're not gonna give a press conference every time something happens to him while he's already on the 60 day IL.

A healthy Story is clearly an option at SS or the team would not repeatedly say, and plan around, the opposite.
When he got injured Yu Chang was playing at a level where he would have been just fine as a bridge to Story. Elite defense and the bat had woken up in the week or two before the injury.
Mondesi was considered to have an outside chance of making the Opening Day roster when he was signed; the expectation was not for him to still not to have a timetable in June.
Arroyo is not a good option at SS, but he's better defensively there than Kiké.

At this point I’ll settle for Story if his throws don’t go 10 feet over the first baseman’s head, no matter how slowly it gets there. Zach Neto played 37 games in AA before coming up for the Angels and playing really solid so far for them at SS. A couple more Kiké errors (and several heavy drinks) and you could even talk to me into Marcelo

Whitlock looks gassed. It would be pretty heroic to get out of this inning unscathed.
Edit: Wouldn't it be nice to have a few more bullets, ENRIQUE

Just tuned in, on my hammock in my yard. Red Sox with ONE hit? TWO errors?
That'll show the Rays. Good grief.
