They're meant to be a lot less formal than other threads on the forum, so to moderate them the same way would be silly. However, we do ask posters to maintain a certain level of decorum in these threads, and we plan on moderating the Gameday threads a little more actively this season. In particular, we ask that posters refrain from being overly repetitive with their posts (if you've made your point, let it go), refrain from monopolizing the discussion (if you are making more than a couple posts in a row, you probably need to slow down a little bit), and of course, follow the Ground Rules ( link). The point is to make these threads worth participating in and fun for all posters, from our long-time fixtures to people just signing up today. -The Management

Are the Guardians having the most disappointing season of any team this year? I figure the other candidates are the White Sox, Mets, Phillies, Cardinals, and Padres.

The A's might be most disappointing in a projected win sense, but not in an affective sense; when your expectations are to be terrible, being abominable instead isn't much of a letdown.
I might've included the Blue Jays when they were at .500 but now they're back at an 88-win pace, which I don't think you can really compare to some of those other teams.

JD Martinez power returned…I would not have bet money on that. Turner has brought a great attitude and respectable stats even if less than JD. Eovaldi only pitched more than 111 innings ONCE in the last FIVE YEARS. I wonder when his DL stint will be…? Wacha for 4 year…no thanks (he was sitting right in front of me at church a few weeks ago in SD…he is definitely 6’6”).

This team would look a lot better with Nate right now.

No one expected anything from Oakland. Yes they're going to finish with the lowest win total of all time, but everyone expected them to finish in dead last. Rachel Phelps would be proud.

Hind sight is always 20/20, anyone would take Wacha or Eovaldi over Kluber for this year, but Wacha was 4 year $27,000,000 and Eovaldi was 2 year $34,000,000! So far the results have been good for those contracts, but who is to say they do not turn out like Matsuzaka (2 good years and 4 bad)…

Eovaldi rejected a better offer from the Sox to sign with the Rangers. Who knows why? Maybe players like Eovaldi and Betts just don't want to play in Boston due to all the negativity from the fan base ?

Oakland is averaging 8675 per game. It is a wonder they even have that many in attendance….even 50 years ago when they were in the middle of three straight World Series champions they drew poor attendance (between 10,400 - 12,000 per game). They briefly drew well during the Canseco/McGuire years, but it is a wonder they have not moved sooner….. You could not pay me to go to the city of Oakland!

Well said…fan base? media? crappy weather to play in for half the season? who knows? Bottom line they left. As some forget on this site and others….You can not MAKE a player re-sign.

Maybe players like Eovaldi and Betts just don't want to play in Boston due to all the negativity from the fan base ? Fans love to insert themselves into the narrative: players sign with or avoid teams due to the nature of the fan base; teams make crucial decisions for the PR. But it's been reported, and pointed out many times here, that Eovaldi rejected the Sox' offer because his agent wrongly thought the free agent market would heat up more than it did, and when they went back to the Red Sox to try to get the same deal the team had already allocated the money elsewhere.

Did they not say yesterday that Kiké will no longer play short moving forward? Or was that just an assumption

I’m ready to get hurt again. Think those are the same words Rock Hudson said to his proctologist.

There's only two rational possibilities for that. All of the other options are hurt, or they are focusing on getting playing time for Duran (assuming he's in center). Any other reason would fall outside of the realm of rationality at this point. Kiké at short has clearly failed as an experiment. Though Cora seems have a completely irrational level of trust in Kiké, so I'm not saying that's not what is happening. For the record, I don't hate giving Duran some run here to see if he can pull himself out of this slump before Duvall comes back. But I'm not sure that reflects a "win now" mentality.

So far the results have been good for those contracts, but who is to say they do not turn out like Matsuzaka (2 good years and 4 bad)… I was glad to let Wacha walk, but was all in on bringing back Eovaldi at 2 years at $20M AAV per year in the off season (and for bringing JDM back). So far, at least according to the Fangraph's formula, Eovaldi has produced $21.4 million in value. At his current rate of success he will earn out the whole contract this year. Of course, pitchers break easily, so anything can happen. But I still would've beaten Texas' offer. He was a solid pitcher, liked to pitch in Boston, a clubhouse leader and not as bad as his middling performance last year (his current xFIP is almost identical to last year). Anyway, Mr. Bloom Knows Best™. ADDED: JD Martinez has already produced $8.1M in value of his $10.M contract, per Fangraphs.
