They're meant to be a lot less formal than other threads on the forum, so to moderate them the same way would be silly. However, we do ask posters to maintain a certain level of decorum in these threads, and we plan on moderating the Gameday threads a little more actively this season. In particular, we ask that posters refrain from being overly repetitive with their posts (if you've made your point, let it go), refrain from monopolizing the discussion (if you are making more than a couple posts in a row, you probably need to slow down a little bit), and of course, follow the Ground Rules ( link). The point is to make these threads worth participating in and fun for all posters, from our long-time fixtures to people just signing up today. -The Management

If there was ever a pitcher/team to wake Rafi up from his Slumber it's gotta be Gerrit Cole and the Yankees. Let's hope that happens and the Sox can get at least two W's.

Nestor Cortes says “what rivalry”??
"It doesn’t feel like what we have with Tampa now, or with Toronto now," Yankees pitcher Nestor Cortes asserted. "You could argue that [the Red Sox] haven’t been who they really are the last couple years.

We feel the same way. The MFYs of old died when they moved into their new, soulless stadium. That fan base is a shell of itself now. Zero intimidation going into that dump of a borough.
They also haven’t won an AL pennant since 2009, so they can keep slapping themselves to the word “mystique”, their 50 retired jerseys, and some more dorky John Sterling home run calls.

I have this visceral sense of disgust as this series approaches. It feels beneath The Greatest Baseball Franchise of the Century to appear on the same field as this husk of a once formidable adversary. George was unable to secure a worthy succession and now the Bronx Bombers are being worn as a skin suit by bean counters.
The schedule is what it is though, and you have to play these games.

Weird thing to say when they got taken out by us the playoffs before last The Sox haven't been a factor in 4 of the past 5 years and I doubt the Yankees are worried about finishing behind the Red Sox. The Red Sox are the least intimidating team in the division and haven't been a power in the division the past 5 years with 2021 being a wonderful exception. That's an obvious thing. It's not like the Red Sox walk into town with the swagger they had part of last decade and throughout much of the aughts. And with the Yankees not winning or even making the Series since 09 and the sterile new ballpark, devoid of any personality whatsoever, even the mystique and aura from the Bronx Bombers isnt quite the same, so what you're left with is two teams, one that's always winning 90 plus games and going to the playoffs but getting frustrated once there versus a team that hardly even makes the playoffs anymore and is about to reside in the division basement for the 3rd time in 4 seasons. At least the last time the Sox did that they had a Championship. This time all they can say is they got half way to the Series, but at least they beat the Yankees, which is a refrain that's now more common in the post season among other teams, too, lol.

Weird thing to say when they got taken out by us the playoffs before last I actually think its a nothingburger. The Red Sox aren’t good anymore and have fallen by the wayside… But yeah…last time we had a playoff series with them Brock Holt hit for the cycle at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees have also been dragged by the Astros a million times the last decade. Maybe they should just say nothing on this stuff.

Chris Sale put on the 60-day IL. If the Sox don't show up to this series in a meaningful way, I really can't see this ship righting itself to a 85-90 win season...

CBS sports reporting that Adam Duvall has been recalled from his rehab assignment. Not sure how to interpret that. Is he back on the 26 man tonight, or does he need a little more time??

I make this point every year on here, so I'll make it this year too. It's foolish to count on guys coming back from injuries to lift the team. Invariably other guys get hurt.

Sigh. If they had merely played .500 since their 21-14 start I'd hold out some hope that they could weather the storm. But they already have a hole to dig out of and doing it without their ace (and now counting on *Paxton* to stay healthy) just seems fantastical.

On the bright side Devers is a lock to homer off Cole tonight.

They would have to go 59-40, no? There is just no way that happens. I’m thinking 86 wins may be the most they can do at this point.

deGrom missed 4 months with Sale's injury last year. He did come back pitching great until he then hurt his elbow.

Last year one of the announcers called him Nestor the Molester (intended as a compliment!) and the press was begging Nestor to try and ruin the guy's life as retribution but Nestor spared him and lifted him up. I can't hate the guy.

The rivalry right now feels dead. The Red Sox biggest rival right now is a winning season.
