They're meant to be a lot less formal than other threads on the forum, so to moderate them the same way would be silly. However, we do ask posters to maintain a certain level of decorum in these threads, and we plan on moderating the Gameday threads a little more actively this season. In particular, we ask that posters refrain from being overly repetitive with their posts (if you've made your point, let it go), refrain from monopolizing the discussion (if you are making more than a couple posts in a row, you probably need to slow down a little bit), and of course, follow the Ground Rules ( link). Sounds like Judge could be out until the AS Break…or longer:
Speaking to the 'Brady Farkas Show' on WDEV Radio on Thursday, Buster Olney had this to say about Judge and his timeline:
“Think about the injury that he has: it's a right big toe injury for a guy who is six-foot-seven and 282 pounds. For a right-handed hitter, the right big toe is effectively an anchor in his swing. So the pressure he puts on that part of his foot, his toe, is enormous. The Yankees want to make sure that they don't bring him back too soon because otherwise they'd have a turf toe situation. I think they would be be thrilled if he played before the All-Star break.”

Please don't let Clarke Schmidt and all the scrubs shut down the offense again.

DJ LeMahieu:
2019-2020 - .336/.386/.536, 146 wRC+ 2021-2022 - .265/.353/.368, 107 wRC+ 2023 so far - .236/.296/.395, 90 wRC+
His K rate has doubled since last year (13.1% to 26.3%). With his struggles, Yankees just don’t consistently have that contact/on base guy they can rely on to get on in front of Judge/Rizzo/Stanton. Imagine how different their lineup feels if they had signed Yoshida and put him leadoff

The impression that offense and pitching have essentially swapped places in terms of quality is truer than you could imagine.
(I chose to use wOBA for hitting and xwOBA for pitching, since there are obvious real skills involved in the difference between xwOBA and wOBA for the former but not the latter.)
On May 4th the Sox had 3rd best offense in MLB by wOBA (5th by xwOBA).
Since then they rank 23rd (19th by wwOBA).
On May 25th the Sox had the 24th best pitching in MLB by xwOBA (and by wOBA). Both starers and relievers ranked 22nd.
Since then they rank 2nd. Starters rank 3rd and relievers 4th.
One might well ask, how do you go 8-11 while having the second-best pitching in MLB? But you know most of the answer: errors on defense and terrible hitting with runners on base.
A third component seems to be bad luck in relief. They are .291 / .306 (expected, actual), the latter ranking 12th.
It's not unreasonable to think that they might at some point in the season have both really goof hitting and pitching. Wouldn't that be fun!

If Duran is not starting two of three if not all three of these games vs. RHP, it's a gross error of judgment.

Red sox didn't lose yesterday. Let's see if they can continue the trend today.

Judge-less Yankees suck. This should be at least 2 out of 3.

At least Hernandez isn't at SS but what the heck is Cora's affinity with playing Duvall vs righties?

At least Hernandez isn't at SS but what the heck is Cora's affinity with playing Duvall vs righties? They're deluded by the exceptionally small sample first week of April performance. Hoping "he finds it again," no doubt. Meanwhile the guy's been O-Swinging more than ever since he got back. He's probably caught between trying to find his swing again after such a long lay-off and pressing to be the guy he was for one magic week.

At least Hernandez isn't at SS but what the heck is Cora's affinity with playing Duvall vs righties? Power and defense in Duvall's favor. The attributes of speed, base stealing and late game LH pinch hitter make Duran valuable to have on the bench. My question is why Arroyo over Kiki ? I wish they would move Arroyo for a backup SS, to remove the temptation to put Kiki over there again.

If you compare the twos stats since 6/9 when Duvall first returned: Duvall wRC+16 K% 38.1 .111/.238/.167 in 21 PAs Duran wRC+196 K% 10 .444/.500/.556 in 10 PAs Like yea we're talking 10 PAs for Duran but he's seemingly been seeing the ball well the last week while Duvall has stunk because they stupidly rushed him back up from his rehab assignment coming back from a broken wrist. Don't get it, and the rush job is on Bloom but the playing the dang guy every day is on Cora.

I don't think literally anyone in the world expects Duvall to do what he did in that week again for any prolonged stretch. Including Duvall himself. But he is a starting caliber player it's not crazy to try to give him regular PT as he gets back into things. I'd start Duran too but it's not like this is a crazy choice.

It's never a good thing when your former HOF DH says the Sox have a leadership problem in their clubhouse and that no one even asks him for any advice. It means it's open season in the press on the Sox right now when they start posting puff pieces like this.

Speaking of turf-toe, I remember Deon Sanders had it chronically later in his career. He's since had two toes amputated and may need to have that foot amputated. Constriction developed in his veins in that foot. Awful.

Duran needs to play in more games than Casas does. Cora needs to make this happen by moving guys around. Sitting Duran for extended stretches is a horrible move.
