I think of the end of the year promos in part as a reward for the players who excelled by giving them a cup of coffee at the higher level before heading into the offseason. Hopefully give them something to think about too for offseason development.
AA is playing an extra week compared to A-ball (although Greenville would've been in the playoffs) so that might be a factor in general going forward. Same can be said about AAA playing an extra week vs. AA.
Regardless - to me this is a sign that we can pencil him (and Teel) into the AA starting roster for 2024, which keeps him on the fast track through the system.

Looking further back, over the course of my life time (1979), The Red Sox have had 12 prospects in AA at age 19. 8 of them came in the 80s. In 1988, they added the Rookie League.
1979: Rich Gedman, Mark Baum 1981: Juan Bustabad, Danny Sheaffer 1985: John Mitchell 1987: Alex Flores, Josias Manzanillo 1989: Ed Riley 1990: Alex Delgado 2011: Hunter Menesis 2012: Xander Bogaerts 2023: Roman Anthony

Might want to think about Devers although maybe he was only 18 and then 19 in Pawtucket (AAA)
I stand corrected, thanks.

I think he needs to get his feet on the ground more and consolidate contact skills before he's moved to AA.

Actually, I'm 99.9999% sure this is an accurate statement: Roman Anthony is the youngest Red Sox player to make his AA debut in AT LEAST the last 44 years.I haven't gone back further. It's possible someone skipped AA and debuted in AAA at a younger age, or even the majors. But as far as AA is concerned, Roman Anthony is the youngest Red Sox player to make his AA debut in at least the last 44 years. 1979. Anyone know of a quick way to look this up? Now I'm curious who the youngest was, it can't be him? edit: Go figure. I go back one more season to 1978 and Rick Colbert was 18. Double edit: This was the youngest Red Sox player to make his AA debut at age 16: www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=kern--001ricSome guy named Ted Williams made his at age 17.

I am getting greedy in Portland. Send me Anthony (and Teel). Very excited to see him in person. Well that worked out nicely.

Is some of this agressiveness in response to the dilution of the lower minors with no short season for recent draftees? Are there more raw or tired players populating A- and thus A+ has guys that moved up early to mkae room, so top prospects just aren't getting fair competition in late season A+?

That's all possible, but I think foreverred9's take, above, has more to say about it.

I wonder if the minors are as a diluted sample size in Sept as MLB.

Spoke to someone the other day who referred to Salem as "complex plus," not necessarily derisively but in terms of how teams treat the level talent wise. I think that speaks to the levels at this point. I think we're going to see a lot more guys pushed aggressively to AA so they get challenged.

Well that worked out nicely. Planning on being at Hadlock for the next home game on the 12th. Paying the extra to sit in the outfield section tonight to get an upclose look at Anthony (Roman the outfield). Plus who knows, maybe get upclose with a hr ball from him or Teel.

The OF is more expensive at Hadlock? It has an all you can eat bbq attached to the seats. Burgers, dogs, pulled chicken, beans, cole slaw, soda, and of course Sea Dogs Biscuits. If you are hungry it can be worth the extra $$.

Under 24? Pshhh. How about under 20? 20? you don't even have to go that low. 23 years and 324 days and lower makes Anthony #1
