www.mlb.com/prospects/2024/draft/Click sort by age and you will find the Red Sox big board* *May not apply in the Craig Breslow era
How about Slade Caldwell. 5'8 OF with a hit tool. Ranked #20 and turns 18 one month before the draft.

I will make two calls right now let’s see how they age in time.
Chase Burns (16) will be a much higher pick than that come draft time. Tommy White (7) will be much lower than that come draft time.

On paper it looks like a really interesting class big picture wise, because while there are some really good players at the top, most of them are at positions that get deemed less valuable (first and second base), and the crop of high schoolers doesn’t look to be good enough to fill that gap.
I’m biased, but I will likely be banging the drum for Braden Montgomery all year.
I also think Brody Brecht (the top end stuff is just too good, look at Cade Horton a couple years ago) and Luke Holman (a guy I will be looking at for the Sox) jump out as some potential risers early on.

I could see us going under slot on a prep pitcher in the 1st then going over slot for a prep pitcher in the 2nd.

We know this list will be very different come draft time but those 5 college arms from 13 through 18 look attractive right now. Currently Hartle, Smith, or Burns would be my wish. I'll take Ben Hess or Gage Jump in the second and Ryan Johnson or Travis Smith in the third. I will be shocked if any are right in July.

Digging into the top 100 a little more, not as good a list of guys I'll get to see in person this year compared to last when I got to see Florida and LSU for a full series, I did this last year too but here are all of the guys I'll be able to for sure get eyes on in person:
Charlie Condon Braden Montgomery Hagen Smith Dakota Jordan Walker Janek Carter Hplton Jared Thomas Austin Overn (maybe) Greysen Carter
Plus whatever guys I see through working broadcasts at other schools or working another regional.
Not a bad list, super intrigued to see Dakota Jordan live. In addition to that, I've already seen a handful of guys already (all of the non-transfer Virginia, Florida, and LSU guys on the list in addition to Trey Yesavage who I really like, won't type them all out). Last year the Sox drafted four guys I'd seen live, odds are against that happening again but I'm hoping there will be at least one guy in the first few rounds that I can say I'm very familiar with.

If he falls to us in the draft, I'd love the opportunity to see a Bazzana-Nazzan double-play.

Honeycutt is way way too high on that list. College hitters that swing and miss that much rarely pan out.

In this draft the Red Sox will surly go college prospect because they are almost ready to compete with Teel Mayer and Anthony hopefully joining the team in 2025. With the addition of Breslow + Bailey + drive line founder many of us prob think they will go extremely pitching heavy in this draft. However i want to propose having the best, young defensive outfield in 2026.
If the Red Sox can draft the future gold glove center fielder out of North Carolina, Vance Honeycutt and pair him with Rafaela + Anthony we will have the next killer bee's (would obv need a new nickname).
Honeycutt is a elite defender with plus power and speed. Needs to prove he can hit for a higher average but had a down year last year due to injuries. When he plays he is clearly the best player for both teams. He is currently the 6th ranked prospect by MLB.com but last year Teel was the 7th ranked and fell to us so anything is possible. He needs to cut down on the swing and miss so we will see but I feel like his floor is solid due to his defense so if he can manage to cut down the chase, which is possible he will be electric.
Sox have our infield set for years to come, time to solidify the outfield. We know how much they have struggled with defense and this plus Mayer in the infielder, defense will turn to a strength.
Thoughts?

He's going to need to prove he can hit and stay healthy this year. If he does both things, I doubt he will be available at 12. If he doesn't hit or stay healthy then I'm not sure I'd be pumped about him at 12. But we'll see - it's a long way to go.

I think I like Seaver King's profile a little more at this stage, though he has production concerns of his own.

Does anyone know if the Pipeline archives their Top 100 lists? I know high schoolers are more likely to rise late in the cycle as they get more exposure, but it does feel like a remarkably heavy college class, even for this early on. I'm not really complaining about that as I had my whole tangent on why I'd generally draft for floor early in the MLB Draft, but it's just interesting to see.

Give me an all pitchers draft lets go. Pretty sure that went horribly for LAA. Just draft BPA according to your scouting and the the chips fall where they may.

I don't care if the Sox have the greatest group of pitching evaluators ever known to man, taking an all pitcher draft is a poor strategy no matter what. Taking an all hitter draft is a poor strategy too. You take BPA according to your scouting and ability to sign them.

I'm all for taking the BPA, but I'm also really hoping the BPA happens to be a pitcher
