It stinks because Arroyo seemed like a good clubhouse guy and was solid for us the last 2 years, but he just didnt have it this year for whatever reason. Once again, glad they made the right baseball move.

I really liked Arroyo and I'm sad for him that it didn't work out better this year, but this is absolutely the right move for the team, gotta see what you have in Urias.

As with Kiké, a sincere thanks for your contributions over the past couple years, but it was time. Still an absolute win of a buy-low given where he was at when the Sox signed him. Hopefully it's out with the old buy-low success story and in with the new one!

Thank god. Find a better solution to second base. It's arguably the worst position the Sox have had the past 5-6 years (except when Story filled in).

Yuppp. Good dude, and good clubhouse guy. I hope he goes to any team (please not the AL East) and excels in a role like he did for the 2021 Sox. He was key infield utility guy for that squad.

1. Duran CF (L) 2. Turner DH (R) 3. Yoshida LF (L) 4. Devers 3B (L) 5. Story SS (R) 6. Casas 1B (L) 7. Urias 2B (R) 8. Verdugo RF (L) 9. Wong C (R)
Ignoring if it’s a LHP / RHP on the mound, this lineup is stacked

A sad but necessary thing to do, I guess.

We don't make the 2021 ALCS without Arroyo. Rotten luck with injuries prevented him from putting together a strong full season when he had the opportunity and was at the peak of his abilities. Tried to help the team by playing out of position in the OF in 2022, and hurt himself playing out of position at 1B; he was a gamer. Happy trails.

That grand slam is always what I think of when it comes to Arroyo's clutch moments for the team. (It's a shame that clip doesn't include the reaction shot of Kiké in the dugout, which was an all-timer.)

I always liked Arroyo but he just never changed his approach at bat and it was frustrating. I would much rather have our hitters try and get in deep in counts and make the pitchers work. I hate giving away easy outs

(It's a shame that clip doesn't include the reaction shot of Kiké in the dugout, which was an all-timer.) He has an amazing OBP with bases loaded - something like .365. Also, in high leverage situations he is lifetime: .264 ave/.320 obp/.448 slg Otherwise he seemed to be a streaky hitter. He'll probably go to the Dodgers or Rays and become a star now.

Thanks for your service Arroyo 🫡. Hopefully he can find it with a different club.
Also, I think this move virtually guarantees Reyes is the next DFA victim when Story comes back next week.

I thought it likely Arroyo was on the designated path but I questioned how long Urias is up, based on when Story/others return.

And Chang behind Story (I'm assuming they're going to give Story a couple off days per week, at least to start, given that they play like 32 out of the next 34 days...) and Urias?

It better be Reyes unless someone gets hurt before Story is back. DFA’ing your best defensive middle IF would be malpractice.

Am I the only one who wants Kolten Wong? Thinking more for 2024. Urias/Wong might bounce back to be a solid platoon. Wong plays good D, is a LHH, and played with Urias. I like the fit, assuming he can hit above .200. Can they sign him pro-rated for the rest of the year with a club option for 2024? Or would it have to be a straight 2-year deal?

I think the addition of Urias makes Chang and Reyes both unlikely to survive the offseason, so I don't think it matters all that much which one of the two similarly talented players is the third middle infielder for a couple months.

The amount of takes on Twitter of folks saying that Reyes is a better defensive option than Chang is gonna make me sick 🤢

In terms of the offseason, I feel like that is going to be very dependent on what version of Luis Urias the Sox get the next two months... But if it's magically something like 2021 Urias (or even a tick up from 2022).. that would be another classic Bloom "diamond in the rough" play.

But if it's magically something like 2021 Urias (or even a tick up from 2022).. that would be another classic Bloom "diamond in the rough" play. He had 1000 PAs in 2021-22 with a 112 wRC+ in 2021 and a 110 in 2022. Then he was injured at the start of 2023 and had a bad 68 PAs. Assuming the injury is behind him (and in his last 70 PAs in AAA he has a .900 OPS) the pretty strong assumption ought to be that he should return to his 2021-22 form. No magic needed!
