St. Louis was 3-7 in their previous 10 before sweeping the Sox. Reds were 5-5 before going 2-1 vs. the Sox. Rockies were 3-7 before going 2-1 vs. the Sox. Angels were 5-5 before sweeping the Sox in May. Guardians were 5-5 before going 2-1 vs Sox in June. White Sox were 3-7 before going 2-1 vs. Sox in June (they went 3-7 in their next 10 games). Oakland was 2-8 before going 2-1 vs. Sox in July. (they went 3-7 in their next 10 games). Pirates came into Fenway 1-2 in their first series of the season (against the then-lowly Reds) before sweeping the Sox in April. Any other teams you consider scrubs? These were all self-inflicted wounds. We'll see at the end of the season if they were fatal to making the playoffs. Woof… so it was self inflicted bad vibes Happens to the best of us.

In fairness the pirates were the 2nd best team in baseball a month in- they won a bunch of games after our series with them
….needless to say that start did not hold lol
The larger point remains though, they would be in a wild card spot if they didn’t continuously play down to the level of their competition

So, the Sox were the springboard to big winning streaks. For other teams.

Haha so the 2023 Sox are semi-analogous to being the guy/woman whose every ex goes on to marry the next person they meet. Just replace "marry" with "crush."

Why is it that almost every scrub team the Sox play this year is scorching hot right before their series with Boston starts St. These were all self-inflicted wounds. We'll see at the end of the season if they were fatal to making the playoffs. Damn. This is a very succinct assessment of why it's unlikely we make the playoffs this year.

If we talking ideal line-up I'd actually move Duran up and shift Turner down: Duran CF Yoshida LF Story SS Devers 3B Casas 1B Turner DH Verdugo RF Urias 2B Wong C

The Mets were hot too - 9-6 against decent competition, including a west coast road trip, before they lost 2 of 3 in Boston. And once they left, they finished the month 4-2 against NYY an WSH. They went 14-9 in July overall despite a 40-56 record in all other months.

Really like the fully alternating left-handed/right-handed lineup. Yoshida needs a day. Swing has gotten back to looking like it was earlier in the year, lot of choppers/ground balls of late. Time to get after it. Is this the first LRLRLRLRL we've had all year? I could definitely be wrong but I don't remember seeing this.
